Regher vs. Hannan

I found this old thread, from 2005 when i was looking back debating on which player is better, since the NHL season is coming and theres not much to do i'm curious about what other flame fans think about which player thus far has won this debate... this is just outta boredom, don't take this super serious...

Regehr is better than Hannan.

I like Hannan and I'm glad he's here, but if you gave me the choice of which one to take on my team right now, it would be Regehr in a heartbeat.

Regher easily, more physical and harder to play against.

That being said, Hannan is solid and at $1 mil he's a steal. I have no problem with the downgrade to save 3 mil

I would rather have Regehr. But Hannan was a nice replacement for him, especially for so cheap.

i like both i was just curious cause they play soo much alike... sure hannan's better at somethings, and reghers better at others... but shutdown d's, its a dying style in todays game... everyone wants to be crosby, ovechkin, green, etc... so when i think shutdown d i think hannan, and regher are my first thoughts... then orpik, schenn, mitchell, ohlund, Michalik (spelling? the guy in pittsburgh he has a brother in ottawa milan?? soorry) and maybe ballard

Regehr is still a solid 1st pairing dman on any team. Hannan feels more like a #2/3 dman, which suits the Flames' needs just fine; I don't think we'll see a significant drop in how well the d corps does this year, but there will be the occasion that we might miss Regehr.

Hannan is a good signing at that price.

Hello.

Should the Wings sign Scott Hannan?

We are missing one defensive defenceman to fit in Brad Stuart's shoes. And I can't see any other decent guy in the market.

Was he good or bad for Flames at last season?

How would he fit to Wings, what do you think?

No we don't want Hannan, he doesn't have the puck moving skills to fit into the system and we have Kindl in the same role already.

Plus he is worth more to keep as a flame.

Flames has already 8 signed defencemen, so he is quite clear out from the organization.

If you don't want him to Wings, who would you want? We are not going to start the season with only 6 guys.

Kindl hasn't been a penalty killing defenseman yet in his career, so we need one.

Hannan's biggest issue currently is his foot speed. This past season, he reminded me quite a bit of Warrener in his last 2 seasons here (minus the injures, and minus the physicality). Won't wow you with anything, but is positionally sound and will get the job done. He very quietly had a solid and fairly consistent season last year and I wish him all the best.

He can fill in on a top 4 role if need be, but ideally on stacked defence he would be a bottom pairing guy at this stage of his career due to his speed.

It really depends, Stuart had started to slow down and was more of a #4 last year but Hannan is at best #5 if you are looking for a stop gap until Smith proves he can handle full time duty its not a bad idea but don't sign him if you think he can be a physical force.
