Remembering some sortof hype surrounding him during the Stl to Wash trade. Not sure why. He cannot play hockey and being a fighter is a totally thankless job that any thug can do. And in that role he appears to be spent.
Why not bring George Laraque back into the league instead? We need him to start doing some more commericals.
If Cam Janssen can get a 2 way, league minimum deal, I'm surprised King can't at least get that??? He was always the better player and better fighter of the two with the blues. I guess Cam's a quality teammate and a good locker room guy to have so maybe that's why he might still be around longer than D.J.. Color me surprised if Cam does stick around in the league longer than D.J. King. I didn't really follow King much after the blues though so maybe I'm missing something.

King was absolutely awful in the limited action he saw in Washington. He spent a majority of 2011 in the press box (being exposed to waivers before the TDL in case the team needed the roster spot). There was some hope that because he was coming off of injury he would be better this past season, but it turned out not to be the case. He requested to be moved to somewhere he could see some ice time. He was sent to Hershey after clearing waivers, then only saw action in 29 games with Hershey. Rechlicz ended up ahead of him on both Washington and Hershey's depth chart as an enforcer.
do goons get played to put pucks in the net? lets call him an enforcer instead, he is a very nice guy.
no, but they are paid to skate well enough to keep up with the play and to professionally play the puck when it comes to him. when king played for the caps last season, he couldnt do either.
oh, and....sdr? an nhl regular? i'll believe it when i see it.
King was a decent enough player when he was throwing his weight around.
He broke his hand in a fight and when he came back he stopped playing with his typical aggression. Enforcers that don't play with a psychotic edge don't hold that much value.

Don Cherry said onetime but cant remember the entire quote. " when __________ thinks hes a rusher he soon becomes an usher" That keeps playing in my head after reading you're post. However I just cant remember the whole thing.
I was pissed when we kept janssen over DJ. He could throw them with the best and didn't look out of place playing hockey, unlike cam. Haven't really watched him since, sounds like things went south.
