P.J. Axelsson eyeing NHL comeback?

Two NHL teams have expressed interest in the former Bruins forward.

http://www.expressen.se/sport/hockey...-nhl-comeback/

Axelsson, now 37 years old, had just 14 points in 52 games last season. He played center exclusively, on the third and fourth lines. He also registered a plus-5 and 29 hits, averaging 13:49 of TOI (ninth among the team's forwards).

Frankly, he's pretty awful now. He can't forecheck effectively anymore, which is why he was moved to center. I doubt he can play the middle in the NHL.

Who wants him?

Really? Wow. I think he'll do better on the smaller ice surface, but he won't be his old self.

Not a player I would have expected to make a comeback. It sounds like the agent has simply talked to a couple of teams about the possibility, nothing more.

I learned that the Swedish word for penalty killing is "boxplay", which is kinda cool.

It's incredibly stupid, I refuse to use it.

Loved PJ, one of my favorite Bruins. We are stacked at at the bottom 6 so I don't think it would be a Bruins comeback

I guess it is a new theme this summer for older players to try and make a comeback...

The year there might be a lockout to top it all off. I think they're better off staying in Europe this year!

I like that it could have a double meaning in English... "box" meaning both the penalty box, and also the shape that the players make when in formation.

But yeah... I probably wouldn't use it much either

With the game slowing down and becoming more defensive again, I bet we see more older players trying to come back. They aren't as much of a step behind as they would have been 3 years ago.

He was my favorite Bruin after Samsonov so I hope he doesn't make a comeback and remains a career Bruin.

It may sound silly, but it isn't that stupid.

A great penalty killer and versitile winger in his time.
Not sure he has any gas left in the tank.

The only thing funnier than PJ axelsson trying to make a come back, is that two teams are reportedly interested

I could see NYI, perhaps even Phoenix interested.

Interested could really simply mean a two-way contract where they add his experience in to the organization to help mentor young players and be an option when there are injuries. Or it could just be a minor league contract.

That's not happening, and Wallin is as good as done because of concussions..

We're looking for a center, preferably a #2 so Nielsen can be moved to #3. No room for Axelsson with Ullstrom, Grabner, Martin, Joensuu, and Boulton as our bottom-6 wings.

I really liked Axelsson when he was on the Bruins. Seeing him even at a training camp would be nice.

He's more than as good as done, right? I thought I read that he actually has to retire.

I loved PJ. Unfortunately we have absolutely 0 use for him. Knight, Spooner, Caron, Bourque, and a few other prospects are already battling for 3rd line LW. Ain't gonna happen.

Remember that shootout move he would try every time because it worked once against Chicago.
