1. Jake Gardiner 2. Nazem Kadri 3. Joe Colborne 4. Carter Ashton 5. Matt Frattin 6. Jesse Blacker 7. Tyler Biggs 8. Joshua Leivo 9. Brad Ross 10. Stuart Percy 11. Korbinian Holzer 12. Nicolas Deschamps 13. Mark Owuya 14. Jerry D'Amigo 15. Greg McKegg 16. Ben Scrivens 17. Marcel Mueller 18. Tom Nilsson 19. Garret Sparks 20. Sondre Olden 21. Josh Nicholls 22. Jussi Rynnas 23. Tony Cameranesi 24. Daniel Brodin 25. Juraj Mikus
Good list. The top 10 is pretty much same with me, maybe Leivo goes to 11 but it's not a stretch by any means. But Scrivens has to go Top-10. Rynnas for me is a little higher overall and Brodin is higher than Cameranesi. But damn, otherwise identical prospect lists.
right now the way the leafs are playing I have the a Japanese bantam team ranked higher than the TML!!!!!!!! Maybe we should put a tim hortons cup in net and see if it can stop anything, and maybe.............just maybe we could rrrrrrrrroll up the rim and win a goalie and a new coach!!!!!!!!!!!!!
On one hand, Ashton looked pretty poor offensively in his showing with Toronto, and seems more disposable than Frattin, but then Ashton is 3-4 years younger, which means he has a lot of room to grow as a raw rookie, so maybe you don't want to ship him out.
On the other other hand, we have Biggs, Devane, Ross, Leivo in that 2nd-3rd line winger role with size and/or aggressiveness in the same age group, so it's not like he'd be a huge loss.
On the other other other hand, Bernier could be a franchise goalie, so all of it is a small price to pay and an acceptable risk.
Funny the effect actually watching a prospect has on evaluations
I think it's probably an unfair swing in the other direction given Ashton was thrown onto a team in a tailspin and then got injured during his time with the Marlies. 19 goals in 56 games with Norfolk is still very impressive for a 20 year old, so his offense may come around eventually. It appeared to me that he will max out as a very physical 3rd-liner and there's nothing wrong with that, but there's plenty of development ahead for a 21 year old. A full year with the Marlies could do him wonders all around.
Just my opinion - regardless of what anyone says i think we can be all satisfied with out top 10 farm system with the potential to be top 5. Burke has done so much to make not only our team better but also our farm system one of the best. He has traded for 3 of our top 5 prospects in Gardiner, Colbourne and Ashton in the last year. Very impressive.
Ashton is a long term project. He is an NHLer in terms of being dependable and not being a liability on the ice, but not an asset in terms of any production. He is still rather lanky for a PF and should bulk up a bunch.
