Max Pacioretty and the Search for a Superstar

Hey Habs fans,

Wrote a column on Pacioretty that was published yesterday. Probably not a ton of new information to you, but I took a look at both the qualitative and quantitative. Got some quotes from a few Habs bloggers, too.

Hope you enjoy:

Over the past two years, he has:
  • Led all Montreal forwards in Relative Corsi
  • Led all Montreal forwards in Corsi
  • Been first or second in team goals for while on the ice (per 60 minutes)
  • Led Montreal’s forwards in team shots for while on the ice (per 60 minutes)
  • In 2011-12 he led all Montreal forwards in goals and primary assists generated (per 60 minutes)
  • Led all NHL left wingers in 2011-12 with 1.47 goals for (per 60 minutes)
  • Fourth among all NHL left wingers in 2011-12 with 2.68 points for (per 60 minutes)

A few years from now him and Galchenyuk are going to be the driving force behind one of the NHL's best lines.

Still remember when people would've traded him for Frolov.

Patches has the potential of becoming a star player, and if he consecutive seasons like last year, he will become one no doubt.

Pacioretty is one of the few bright spots on our team. With the work ethic he has, the attitude, and the skill, I don't see how he won't hit 40 goals at least once during his tenure with us.

He scored more goals last season than Guy Lafleur did in his first or second NHL season. However, I wouldn't be so rash as to extrapolate from that.

I admit, I once included him in a trade proposal... but for a struggling Malkin... I don't regret it

this is hands down my favourite quote from that old thread about pac's for frovlov that was posted above :

"I was hoping for a 30 goal/60 point player out of Max, but it looks mor elike he's shaping up to become a 5 goal 4th liner. Its not just the lack of production, its his inability to do anything int he offensive zone. He can't find scoring areas and he doesn't have good finish. Really strikes me as somebody who is going to end up like Chad Kilger just because he doesn't have enough hockey sense to succeed in the nhl."

wow, he stared off with the right hopes .. but did this guy ever get it wrongin the end! .. thank god!

A.Frolov is a very talented player but how exactly are we going to afford him come off-season? Heck, we aren't even sure on how exactly we'll find the money to re-sign Plekanec, and given our situation in the middle, Plekanec is more important than Frolov.

I like Pacioretty a lot, too.
i like past me

Max could be a 40 goal scorer he missed many chances last year and still finished with 33 goals

With Galchenyuk and in a couple of year (he's only 23, let's not forget that) He could clearly becombe a perrenial 40 goals scorers.

And inversely Galchenyuk could be a .ppg player setting up Pacs and potting in a few of his own . I see lots of secondary assists in Subban's future!

If he continue shooting the puck at this rate, odds are he'll get at one point a lucky shot % streak and score 40+ goals in a season.

He's probably not going to have such a monster year at ES scoring though The two should balance each other out and keep him about equal rather than the PP carrying him higher. I'd say another 30 goal year is in the cards though and that's nothing to sneeze at.
