Cap floor teams

The cap floor this year is $54 million. here are the list of teams that are below the cap floor.

Team/Current salary/pro players signed
Detroit Red Wings $53,367,045 22
Anaheim Ducks $52,264,167 19
Winnipeg Jets $50,868,959 20
Dallas Stars $50,766,111 20
Ottawa Senators $49,935,833 19
Carolina Hurricanes $49,582,500 20
St. Louis Blues $48,824,999 21
Florida Panthers $48,540,333 20
New York Islanders $47,772,333 19
Phoenix Coyotes $44,033,333 21
Nashville Predators $40,254,167 17

Can we find Gomez a new home somewhere?

I can't imagine it, why wouldn't they just offer semin or other players the league max or whatever other inflated contracts they want.

Tim Thomas (cap hit: $5million, salary: $0, contribution: zero) >> Scott Gomez (cap hit: $7.357million, salary: $5.5million, contribution: negative)

How does the Thomas contract work exactly? If he never comes back, if he comes back in 2 years, if he comes back in 5 years, etc. ?

Couldn't they just sign an actually good player to a big contract though?

Like who? There's two players left that could get paid big dollars, Doan and Semin. After that, you have guys like Rozsival or AK.
So, not all that many players that can warrant a huge payday. If neither Doan or Semin wants to go to Nashville, they still have quite the steep hill to climb.
The only helpful thing would be for a cap decrease.

Nashville will get the cap floor with Weber(7-9M) + SK + Wilson + 2 more D

They only team that won't be able to reach the floor is Phoenix
Gomez to Phoenix could happen

He has 1 year left on a 35+ contract. Boston is on the hook for the full amount (less $100,000 if they assign him to the AHL) unless they can trade him.

New CBA will determine the cap floor.

It would be funny to trade gomez for a cap floor team

Like who? Like any of the top 50 FA on the list. Gomez getting moved is NOT going to happen. Best Montreal can do is let him play 3rd/4th line and hope he can find whatever he once had. No point in buying him out, unless they are signing Doan/Semin, and even then I'm not sure if they couldn't fit one of those players without buying Gomez out.

The one nice thing about Gomez is that his salary cap hit is actually higher than his salary, so if a team wants to simply get to the cap floor without actually spending the cap floor amount, Gomez can help. Saves about $5 million over 2 years.

The difference between Gomez and overpaying Semin or Doan is that Gomez count as 7.357 M$ but only cost 5.5M this year and 4.5M next year, so that's an extra "benefit" for a team looking for cash like Phoenix.

EDIT : What he said

So if he comes back in a few years he won't be counted against the cap?

If he refuses to report, the Bruins would then have the option of tolling his contract, as the Islanders did with Nabakov. But they won't because who wants a 39 year old goalie with a 5 million dollar cap hit reappearing on their roster after not playing for a year? Boston can accomodate the cap hit for this year of they need to (they had enough cap room last year that they didn't put Savard on LTIR...) or they can trade the 5million cap hit/zero salary equation to someone else.

For failure to show they can suspend him indefinitely, so they don't have to pay him. The team he gets traded to can do the same I believe.

Players who sign multi-year contracts when they are age 35 or older (calculated on June 30 of the season the contract begins) count toward the cap under all circumstances, regardless of where (or if) the player is playing. The only cap relief is $100,000 from the player's cap hit if he is assigned to the minors after the first year of the contract.
CBA reference: Section 50.5 (d-i-B-5) (P. 203)
This is the wording of the 35+ contracts, I don't see any wiggle room there.

I'm 100% certain that the cap will go down before next season officially start. Preds and Yotes are in no hurry at the moment.

What's a myth exactly? Pretty sure myth is something that is supposed to have happened. How's that chronic hating going there earl?

Re-signing Weber is no certainty. The arbitration process last year left some bad blood between the two parties, and losing Suter can't help either,
