The last power play he coached netted us 3 goals in a five-minute major and a Stanley Cup.

Seriously, though, the problem with the power play all year for the Kings was the players standing around and not moving their feet. Contrary to popular belief on this board, the Kings play the power play like every other team in the NHL...they just don't execute it very well.

It's all about player execution. The only way it really falls on the coach is to motivate the players to keep active on the PP.

Okay you have to be as old as I am or even older to remember some of these song lyrics...the most recent you have on here is from 1983, 29 years ago.

I hate to give out more negative vibes about this guy, but prepare for him to take your power play to a new level.

Basically, his plan is to get pucks to the net. That's about it.

Glorious. Finally officially no longer affiliated with the Kings.

Sutter interviewed about 4 or 5 candidates to replace him, but nothing since then. I wonder who he interviewed?
I wish Kompton well but I didn't like him much and less so when I saw him on NHL 36 in the Richards segment.

All those names took me back to the great Dmitri Yushkevich for Jaroslav Bednar and Andreas Lilja trade. And to think, the Kings burned two 2nd round picks to draft those European players. Ugh.
Wait, did Bednar(sh) actually play for us? I remember him as a Panther.

Bull ****, you've got a whole 4 slots left. Remember, the Kings were 30th in goal scoring for like half the year... 26th ain't ****.

Chicago will probably have the #1 PP next season. Kompon will troll the entire Kings fanbase.

Yeah, all of 37 games over two seasons (four goals and 15 points).

I figure an article discussing Sutter's search for Kompon's replacement relates to this thread.
http://lakingsinsider.com/2012/07/18...-coach-search/
Quote:
SUTTER: “What I’ve done is, I’ve had guys fly in and spend a day at the farm with me, and guys that I know. I was looking for very specific things. I prefer guys with coaching experience. I prefer a guy that knows the Western Conference. I want a guy that’s hands-on. I want a guy that’s a good communicator. I want a guy that’s preferably not over-the-hill. So, it has tightened up a lot, because quite honestly you have a lot of people that are interested in it, but to me, it’s like I tell them, I want the best free agent out there. It was no slight on Jamie or nothing. I just wanted a different type of coach. With a young team, you need to be really hands-on, and it’s got to come from more than just one or two guys. It’s got to come from everybody. That’s what I’m looking for. We’ve got it narrowed down. It’s just a matter of really cleaning it up, because you want to be sure."

Love the first comment there...just what I was going to write.

Love it.
Have potential assistants muck a stable or two, probably milk a goat. Shows character and defines what is needed most.
LOL! I can’t love Sutter enough.

That's really what he should do...see how much candidates really want to be an assistant coach for the defending SC champions!

Trying to think of how many potential coaching candidates fit the bill as Sutter described:

A) Hands-on coach
B) Good communicator
C) Younger guy who isn't "over the hill"
D) Coaching experience
E) Familiar with Western Conference

One name that comes to mind and someone I have really pushed to see behind the Kings bench is Rick Tocchet. He fits the description of what Sutter is seeking. He turned the Tampa Bay franchise around before Guy Boucher took over, turning a team that had 66 points in the previous season to 80 points (and a 15 win improvement), he's not an "over the hill" coach, he has previous coaching experience in Tampa Bay and served as an assistant in Phoenix and Colorado, which would make him quite familiar with the Western Conference and the rest of the league.

Didn't Sutter also say he'd prefer the assistant to be a better coach than him? Would Tocchet be better? But certainly intriguing. Just don't see Tocchet agreeing to milk a goat.

Kompon knows what to do. IMO he just couldnt get the team to do it. Dont know how much he was to blame. They took him off the PP before the playoffs and except for a couple of games the team was worse than with him. In the end I will say he had to go. The coach's job is to get the players to have results. If in March we are saying fire (new pp guy) and the Hawks are in the top 5, does Jamie get an apolgy card from all of us?
