Dan Boyle may be on the block

Quote:
John Buccigross ‏@Buccigross

Before I go get a flowcut, I want to hear from Rangers & Sharks fans. I heard a Dan Boyle for Marian Gaborik trade almost happened. Thoughts

He's not 100% reliable, but this would not be a huge surprise for Sharks fans. Boyle's NTC now has a window of which he can only select 8 teams he would not allow a trade to. There have also been some previous rumors and rumblings that Boyle may be on the way out (why? not sure, age likely, but he's still producing at about the same rate still).

So the question is, if this is true, what other teams could be interested in a 50 point offensive defensemen with 2 years left on his deal? Which teams could afford to send back a speedy top-6 forward?

The two that come to mind are both bitter rivals (Anaheim/Ryan and Vancouver/Kesler), but curious what other idea's might be out there.

I don't see any good reason for New York to trade Gaborik. Unless it was part of the process of bringing Nash in and gaining Boyle in the process.

I'd love to see a Gaborik Marleau Havlat line. Three of the fastest players in the league.

We are looking for a speedy top-6 (Gaborik being a top-3) forward though. Michalek is all that comes to mind, and that doesn't seem likely. Plus, no offense, but I wouldn't be surprised if Boyle has the Sens on his list, maybe not though.

You gonna throw in Pavelski + as well? Because there's no way Dan Boyle fetches anything close to those 2 players.

If it was straight up, San Jose would have bent New York over.

It's possible, but the point was which teams would have interest in Boyle and a top-6 forward the Sharks would be interested in. I didn't propose a specific deal.

I don't think i'd do michalek because boyle only has a couple good years left in him. He's getting up there in age.

Before foligno got traded, i would have offered foligno,2014 2nd(we dont have 2013 i dont think), and a forward prospect like Pageau/Prince/hoffman.

But that can't happen...i wonder what i'd do.

Maybe greening and a 2014 2nd/2013 3rd? Greening is big(6'3,211), the fastest skater on the sens 2 years running as well as second hardest shot.has 50 points in 106 games(almost 0.5ppg) in his young career to date. Maybe throw in a prospect as well.

I know greening isn't a bonafide top 6 player yet, but i definitely believe he will be a good 2nd liner within the next 2 years. He can already be a good complimentary player on the second pair with his size and speed and aggressive forecheck he can create space. With 17 goals and 20 assists last year in his rookie year, he's showed he has decent skill to play with the big boys too.

So greening,2nd, and prince/petersson/pageau/hoffman would be my offer. All speedsters.

That would probably be what would happen. Maybe a three team trade.

Gaborik
Foligno

Nash
Boyle

Del Zotto
Clowe
Christian Thomas
NYR 1st
SJ 2nd

Thought Boyle made it clear he wasn't going to waive his NTC?

LOL. The Blue Jackets get absolutely destroyed. Get rid of Foligno and Clowe and the second. Then add a significant piece or 2 from the rangers.

He would if it was NY.

Gaborik, however, is the guy who's not willing to waive his NTC. Not sure how his NTC is structured, however. Full NTC?

he had a full NTC until June 30, 2012; now he can pick eight teams he will not accept a trade to

Wait, one of the best pure goal scorers in the league. who also happens to be in his prime, for a 36 year old Dan Boyle?

Yes the Blue Jackets are destroyed. I mean they only get a good young dman with top 2 potential, a top 6 foward, a prospect with top 6 potential and two high round draft picks.

Geez, one player is a top-10 blueliner in the entire NHL who's the best PPQB in the league and a consistent 50 point player, and another is a kid who can't skate and gained the nickname "Delzaster" from Rangers fans after the playoffs. I think that's pretty funny. Rangers fans.

Also, Nash and Gaborik are equal. Nash could easily put up Gaborik's numbers if he were playing with Richards.

You'd take a 36 yr old Dan Boyle over a 21 yr old Del Zotto? Rangers wouldn't consider it.

You'd take Gaborik over Nash? Despite Gaborik being the superior overall player and registering a higher GPG, PPG?

In what world is a 28 yr old 40 goal scorer worth a 36 yr old defenseman? Please do tell me.

I wouldn't do that either if I was the Rangers. They probably aren't happy with the way Gaborik played in the playoffs.
