Del Zotto looks like he's taken a dump in his pants when he skates. It's not effecive.

Guess we shouldn't trade for Brian Boyle who is a big 6 foot 7 shutdown center who plays heavy defensive minutes on the #1 team for Marleau then.
I have no idea what you're even trying to prove here.

Gaborik: 62GP, 22G, 26A, 48P. That was last year without Richards. And then Gaborik in the playoffs this season... And you call Marleau a choker...

Olympic blue liner, PPQB, great defensively, good wheels, etc.
But it makes no sense moving a 21 yr old offensive d-man who just scratched the surface of his potential with a breakout year for him.
Would Sharks fans be interested in Richards for Couture?
Come on. Couture is much better than Del Zotto is at his position, and Boyle is much better than Richards is at his position. That's an absolutely ludacris statement. Couture is already a near-70 point two-way player. Del Zotto is a one dimensional second-pairing defenseman.
A better comparison would be, would you trade Stepan for Joe Thornton. The parallels are there: Thornton is leaving his prime, Stepan is entering it. Yet Stepan will never be close to as good a player as Thornton is now or will be for the next five years, which is when the Rangers window will have closed.
I wouldn't do that either if I was the Rangers. They probably aren't happy with the way Gaborik played in the playoffs.
Very unlikely that his playoff performance has anything to do with this if it were true, which I highly doubt. Gaborik played the entire playoffs with a torn rotator cuff, which will now keep him out till December at the earliest. Can't fault a guy's lack of production when he's basically playing with one arm
Very different. Couture has scored 30 goals twice in his first two seasons. That's a VERY rare accomplishment. Del Zotto has not approached that level of accomplishment yet.
We would not do it though mostly because of the salary situation (which we cannot afford) and we don't need more centers, let alone a #1 center.
Del Zotto is an established top 3 defender on the team that allowed the 2nd least amount of goals. He also scored 40 pts as a young blue line defender. Maybe not Couture proven, but he's pretty damn good and still young.
We need forward depth, it can address that. Many teams lack a true #1 d-man, and even if he is 36, he's still a top-10 d-man who has shown no signs of decline so far.
Let's leave age out of it. You are getting a 50 point d-man for 2 years. What is the value of a 50 point two-way defensemen on a 2 year deal?
Any interest in Rene Bourque then? Montreal can add if necessary. I think Bourque would address forward depth no?. His contract compared to his efforts is quite unpleasing to a lot of fans though.
No that's pure hyperbole by you to try and prove a point. Not exactly comparable.
Del Zotto scored 8 less points than Boyle and is 15 yrs younger with RFA eligibility. It makes absolutely no sense to trade him for Boyle, who is a nice player, but Del Zotto has a longer career awaiting for him at this point. Unless you think Boyle will play another 15 yrs. lol
Age is absolutely relevant. The Rangers want to contend for a long time and not for a span of 2-3 seasons. Del Zotto isn't being moved for Boyle, sorry.
Please find a post where I disparaged Del Zotto. You won't because I did not. You are confusing me with other posters. I was simply arguing that the 'age' argument is tired and beside the point. We are discussing trading Boyle for a top-6 forward, not another d-man.
Is Buccigros reliable? not totally, I admitted that, but he's not totally unreliable either. He should be given a bit more credence then certain very unreliable 'sources' that are given weight around here.
As I said, Boyle is a 50 point two-way dman for the next 2 years. You are not going to get much more of a guaranteed production out of any other available defensemen, regardless of being 36. Past that, who knows, but he's only signed for 2 years so that's all that matters value wise.

Because the Rangers' defensive brilliance had anything to do with Del Zotto. The notion is laughable.

Good luck trying to pawn off other team's young, proven talent.
We are not trying to trade an older defensemen for a younger one. We are trying to trade deffense for offense. It's relevant to a team that is trying to do the opposite. 50 point defensemen do not grow on tree's and if a team is in need of one, even at 36, Dan Boyle is going to be very appealing. Is that the Rangers? We don't know for sure, but the point of the thread is IF this rumor is true THEN what other teams besides the Rangers might be interested in a similar deal.
The Del Zotto discussion is a huge tangent and really isn't relevant.
Not a Shark fan so I wouldn't hold on to anything, I'm just laughing at how overrated Del Zotto is.He isn't even a single > over Boyle, let alone the 5 you posted.Del Zotto had a good season this past year but I guess you forgot about 10-11, where he was pathetic.Boyle is a 6x 50 point scorer, he is ELITE.Del Zotto ISN'T.
I never stated that Del Zotto was a superior player to Boyle.
I simply said that he has more value due to his RFA years and age over a 36 yr old d-man.
Don't know why you or Torts is not sold on a guy that has averaged 35 goals a year for the last 3 seasons.
Or a guy that has led the team in scoring for 2 of the last 3 years and despite missing 20 games was only 6 points off the teams scoring leader two seasons ago.
Or a guy, that despite being labled a defensive liability, is a +38 since signing in NY
Or a guy that despite needing shoulder surgery, played through that pain in the Post season (all 20 games) and still scored one of the biggest PO goals for the Rangers in recent memory. Not to mention scoring at better than .5 points per game with said bum shoulder.
Gaborik may be alot things, but he has absolutely laid it all on the line for this Rangers team since signing here.
Don't know what's not to be sold on. Seems to me he's done everything that has been asked of him and then some considering some of the line-mates he's had in years 1 and 2
So a top 6 foward, a defensive prospect, and a 1st.
It was lupul, negotiation rights to sbisa(RFA), 2 firsts, and a conditional 3rd. BOyle may not be as good as Pronger but im pretty sure you could use it as a base line for value

I would just want a top 6 foward, if we can get more then Yay!
