I am so pumped to see this guy in prospects camp (over the weekend, when I don't have work). Hopefully he can shoot as well as we think.

I would take all expectations of anyone drafted the last two years, bottle them up, bury them for 2 years and then see where they stand.

But prospect camp is cool to watch. Esp. for the fringe guys, or guys on the cusp of the show

So went to the "practice" today. Bored out of my mind. Left soon after the second group took the ice. They were doing skating drills. Some of the young guys struggled figuring out what the coaches were asking them to do, others seemed to be right at home. The first group included Latta, Ekholm, Cehlin and Aberg. Cehlin looked fluid and smooth on his skates, best one of the bunch to be honest. Aberg struggled some and seemed to quit a bunch towards the end of his part of the drill. Not sure if he's overwhelmed, tired, bored or what but I think his work ethic needs to come up a bit. Latta and Reid were giving him a lot of support so that was cool to see. Other than that, not much else to say other than yawn.

Good write-up on Ekholm:

Quote:
“It wasn’t the first time I heard something bad about me,” Ekholm said during the Predators annual development camp. “As a hockey player, it’s your job to take it. It was my first or second game in the NHL. It was hard, but as I said, you think about it a couple of days and then you have to refocus because you’re a good player and you can play the game. You have to shake it off a couple of days after and refocus.
Quote:
“I can’t wait to get him over here and get into our system and play in North America,” Predators general manager David Poile said. “I know he’s going to be a good NHL player in time.”
Quote:
Ekholm’s failed first stint in the NHL hasn’t dampened Nashville’s enthusiasm for him. But it’s a reminder that all prospects are different, and some may need more seasoning outside of the glare of the NHL spotlight. Ekholm said he’s planning to spend next season in North America, either with the Predators’ American Hockey League affiliate in Milwaukee or in Nashville.

From The Admirals Roundtable:

Please welcome Mike Moore to the organ-eye-zation. He’s a 27-year-old left handed shot from the blue line, who has spent most of the last four seasons with the Worcester Sharks.

Because he's not really our 8th best defensive prospect. In fact, I'd say he's right there with Ellis and Blum and just behind Josi. IMHO he's got legit star talent.

Hockey Prospectus just did their updated organizational rankings. We slipped far with a bunch of talent graduating.

Quote:
22. Nashville Predators: The Predators system gets hurt badly by the graduations of Ryan Ellis, Roman Josi, Craig Smith, and Gabriel Bourque. However, they were able to add Pontus Aberg in the second round at the most recent draft who I thought was worthy of a top-15 selection. Between Aberg, Mattias Ekholm, Taylor Beck, and Zach Budish there's still talent coming, but most of their top guns are in the NHL.

Gotta wonder what kind of year he's gonna need to be given a shot at the backup job.

And do we know what's gonna happen with Pickard?

President of Hockey Operations/General Manager David Poile announced today that the club has signed restricted free agent forward Jack Maclellan to a one-year, two-way contract. He is from BU.

I will guess that he stays in Cincinnati for another year with Smith and Hellberg in Milwaukee, Pekka and Mason in Nashville.

Didn't know that. He finished the regular season in Milwaukee after coming up from Cincinnati. D-man Mike Moore is also from the Sharks.

That link wouldn't open for me but he's under contract with us so something would have to be worked out.

Very, very rough translation using Google.

Quote:
Djurgården recruited Stephen Valiquette, a former colleague with Henke Lundqvist New York Rangers. But injuries put an end to him directly. Now the DIF out to find his new goalie's name. One option that the club is working on the Nashville goalie Chet Pickard. According to reports, he is very topical for Djurgården. I am not a goalie expert, I do not say but in terms of this guy's career so far, it feels like a really good name for DIF on the club's successful landing of recruitment. Djurgården is committed to taking the step back to the top division and of course it is very important to have a really good keeper.
