First off, I'd like to thank InformtheMasses for stepping up!

Second, due to popular demand, I think we should add Nino to the poll. I don't think a recount for number one is neccessary and that he and whoever is selected to be added (looking like Nelson) get added. This is InformtheMasses baby now so ultimately it's his decision though.

Strome.

Add Nelson and Nino. No reason not to consider Nino a prospect.

reinhart at this point. i find it impossible to ignore the type of defenceman he could become because of his combination of size, skating ability, and intellect. his upside trumps the upside of any other islander prospect. it's not close, in my opinion. this year will tell a lot about him and where he can go offensively. if he leaps to point-per-game production this year, the isles will have an absolute beast and a future #1 defenceman in the system.

nelson and niederreiter are the must additions to the poll.

I agree with you....iheard that he could become anything from a top pairing D to a very solid #3 defensman....

I thing Strome gets the nod as of now because henhas an extra year on Griff and is much more proven that he wil be a top 2 centre/foward....

If griffen has an amazing year in junior and dominates then I think thier is no question that a top defernsman gets the nod over a top foward

If Nino were in this poll, I would've picked him for #1. People seem to forget the kid is still 19 years old. There is a reason he was a 5th overall. He shouldn't have been in the NHL this year but I think out of all of our prospects, this guy still has the best upside.

In a weird way, I'd graduate Ullstrom before Nino. That said, the rules in this case are there for consistency. However, I do second the vote of adding Nino as a prospect.

Voted for Strome.
Add Ullstrom. Just a nod to Ullstrom's development so far. I'm fine with Nelson getting a lot of votes, but I don't want Ullstrom to get lost in the shuffle due to his "advanced" age.

Strome... Add Nelson (might be #2 in my vote)

I also agree. Nino should be an exception and be included on this list. By no means did he have the exposure in the NHL that would warrant "graduation".. despite playing in 50+ games.

I voted for Strome.
I'm surprised Nelson is not already listed.THN had him ranked the Isles 3rd or 4th best prospect last winter.

Add Nelson.

As of right now, I picked Strome. I could definitely see it change to Reinhart next year though.

Nino has graduated. Stick with the rules.. they work. I don't think anybody is going to vote Nino over Strome anyway so who cares. Point is, the rules are in place and have worked well so keep them the way they are.

I understand peoples desire for including Nino in this years prospect poll. However, these are the prospect guidelines that have been in place for these polls for many years. I feel like the current guidelines have served the polls and message board well, and to alter them at this point for an isolated case would not be right.

Since there is an outcry for Nino, what I will do at the end of this process is have 1 final poll for Nino only. Something along the lines of (If qualified where would you have Nino in your Islander Prospect rankings). This should satisfy the 'Nino-ites' as well as keep the integrity of the polls historic guidelines.

I would just like to add that I am a Nino sympathizer as well. Last season ownership and management (Wang/Snow) didn't do him any favors by having him make the team (in what had to be a cap related roster move). Next, Capuano didn't do him any favors by benching him and relegating him to 4th line sporadic minutes with 'marginal' NHL talent. Lastly Nino did not do himself any favors by failing to force the coaches to give him more minutes with better play.

It was the perfect storm for a dismal season for a very key prospect in the organization. Fear not, one bad season does not a career make. I am no comparing the two, but Joe Thornton had what many considered a very disappointing season as a rookie under Pat Burns playing on the 4th line and sitting 30 games, and he was a #1 pick/generational talent. Suffice to say, this season is very important for Nino, he needs to be logging 18+ minutes a night with significant PP time, obviously BPort makes the most sense but as we have seen, the Islanders don't always do the most logical things.

I'm not surprised at all. Historically in these polls, offensive ability is the major catalyst for votes. The fact that Reinhart could potentially be a legit #1 defender in the NHL with size, speed and solid all around play takes a backseat to the fact that he put up average offensive numbers as a WHL defenceman.

Mayfiled was a draft pick without much cache as a second rounder out of the USHL. 42 games as a freshman wasn't enough to boost him in the eyes of the fans to bring them to the realization that he is a legit top 3 defenceman in the NHL. Reinhart-Hamonic-Mayfield have a chance to be the envy of the league as a young defense core as soon as 3 years from now.

I have nothing against Nelson or Strome for that matter. I think Strome is the only current prospect with definite 1st line ability, but I'm going to vote for the first pairing defenseman over the 1st line scorer on MOST occasions.

Nelson is a much better LW than a Center IMO, I have seen him quite a bit at both positions at North Dakota and World Juniors. To me he is a 2nd line scoring LW with a chance to be a 1st line winger, but has a ways to go. Has good size but does not initiate contact at all. I think he can be a very good player for us and a top 5 Islander prospect this season for sure. Again I would rather have a top 3 defenceman than a 2nd line scoring winger.

Obviously I am voting for Reinhart again and for Mayfield to be added.

Add Jason Clark?

I voted Reinhart as I could see needs playing a role in when he arrives. I like Nelson for a close second.

Ness may get pushed through though. If it means making him trade bait I am all for it.

InformTheMasses: You should let one of us mods know when you want to call these things. I mean this one is pretty obvious that Strome will win. but let us know when you want it closed.

Is his poll not yet closed? I set them to close automatically after 24 hours. AT least I thought I did. I had already moved on to Prospect poll #2, running through 6 am tomorrow morning, at which time I intend to post prospect poll #3.
