That 20 Questions interview Nabby did right before the Olympics with the towel on his head was the stuff of legend.

Not really. Nabby is without a doubt the best goalie in Sharks history, but it was time for a change. I'm a big Niemi fan, and he is very underrated. Great down low, good positioning, above-average reflexes. Nabby is better with the glove and rebounds, but we need someone who raises his game in the playoffs, Nemo does just that.

If Nemo ever works on his rebound control, then he'll be great.

But damn is he bad right now

i miss the calls. "Save by Nabokov!" it had a nice cadence to it.

with niemi, i dunno what happened at the start of the year 2012 with him... he wasnt what won the Blackhawks the cup a few years back, anyways. i think with a healthier murray and continued improvement from vlasic and good defence from burns and boyle, if Niemi just gets the saves he can get, .915 ish save %, we don't even need more.

Yes, yes, yes, yes...

Wish they could bring him back and get rid of the hunchback we got in his place now...

I used to really hate on nabokov, said the sharks needed someone with better scramble and who was less "technical"

Niemi has reflexes and scramble and it has made me realise just how good Nabokov was with his positioning and rebound control

So, in short, I miss him. I don't think it was wrong to let him go considering what he wanted for a contract, however, I didn't like that the sharks signed Niemi, especially after signing Nittymaki. Just another of DW's patented "get someone from the team we lost to" moves

And I will fight anyone who says Nabokov is more beloved or more important in sharks history than Irbe!

Thats how you make the most of being only 5'8 (173)!

We could have been potentially straight ****ed if we didn't and Greiss faltered.

No.

Nabby had his shot and as great as he had been in the regular season, sometimes I just don't think he got it done in the postseason.

Move on.

You can say that about anyone. So far as we know, Greiss hasn't faltered. And the way that whole thing played itself out dealt a pretty bad hand to him when he had earned more than that. Luckily, he's gutted it out and the team hopefully recognizes it and recognizes the solid performance he had this season and gives him more opportunities. He's earned it and I think there's more in him.

every one complains that niemi has bad rebounds, but i would still take the bad rebound goalie over the goalie that lets the 1st shot straight in. at least with the rebound goalie the team in front of him still has the chance to clear the puck away before the goal is scored.

No.

Liked Nabby but he disappointed me one time too many (okay, a few times too many, especially when it mattered most).

The greatest Sharks goalie to date remains Irbe:

I just miss the "Nabby! Nabby! Nabby!" chant. That echoed in the arena so well...

I don't think I've seen a specific Nemo chant other than just cheers.

On the other hand, it does seem like the players prefer Niemi a lot more. They constantly talk about how he's one of the hardest workers and how fun it is to play in front of him. They mentioned something along the lines of playing with a goaltender instead of playing in front of a goaltender. Nabby was always a bit of a loner (only hung out with Rick Bronwell), and the players never talked about him like they do about Niemi.

And Vlasic.

Why was he mean to vlasic?

Cross-checked him because "he just saw the pants and didn't realize he was a teammate." Or something along those lines.

Nabbys 1-0 OT shutout vs flyers this year was vintage Nabby!
Honestly I would package Nemo with boyle/murray and get more offense, and give Greiss the job if Nabby was not coming back ...he has earned it..Shark PP and PK sucked, especially in playoffs, Havlet came in late but played well, Burns I like but he needs to step up. and we need more of the Nasty....
Who's next to Nabby ?

Yes, for his great saves and crowds chanting his name kinda rare to hear a nemo chant unless It's in LA where they score and the crowd chants Antiiiiii that's annoying!

On the flipside It's always hard to get rid of a fan favorite but that's the inevitable thing of professional sports

Also, who remembers the pong episode with him and Baker ??
