  1. Will the Sens make the playoffs? As long as their big players stay healthy for 60+ games.
  2. If yes: Points and how deep will they go? 98, ECF
  3. Best rookie for the Sens and what are your expectations in points and play? Silfverberg with 55 - 60 points, 20 - 30 goals and great defensively to lock up the Calder.
  4. Biggest surprise? Latendresse who actually stays healthy for a season.
  5. Biggest bust/fail? Karlsson, a good (45 - 50 pts) but not great season has people on his case because of his expectations.
  6. Any awards? Silfverberg with the Calder.

1. Will the Sens make the playoffs?

No

2. If yes: Points and how deep will they go?

See above

3. Best rookie for the Sens and what are your expectations in points and play?

Jakob Silferberg - 10g - 25a - 35p

4. Biggest surprise?

I don't think there will be any.

5. Biggest bust/fail?

At his contract value it's difficult to say Latendresse, so I'll say Sergei Gonchar.

6. Any awards?

No.

Everyone saying Karlsson will get 45 points is completely out to lunch. Have you ever seen the guy play? Would you expect/predict that a young/in his prime 70+ point forward would randomly go down to 45 points? NO.

45 points is like his 2nd season where he was 2nd in team scoring, 12 points behind Spezza. He's a better player than he was. So the team would have to completely fail, worse than 2010-11.

Will the Sens make the playoffs? Yes, I see they do

If yes: Points and how deep will they go? Close to 100, maybe 97

Best rookie for the Sens and what are your expectations in points and play? Borowiecki will surprise on the Dside as a complete shut-down guy with a hard side.

Biggest surprise? Borowiecki. Stone if they keep him up.

Biggest bust/fail? Beside Butler (confidence is gone; doubt he opens the season), Gonchar will be in the spotlight

Any awards? Alfie will get something for being a great community guy.

[*]Will the Sens make the playoffs?
As of right now, I'm thinking No

[*]If yes: Points and how deep will they go?
If we make it, I see a another long, hardfought 7 game series.

[*]Best rookie for the Sens and what are your expectations in points and play?
Silfverberg 20g-15a

[*]Biggest surprise?
-Cowen will establish himelf as a dominant force on D. Hopefuly, a Darian Hatcher clone.
-Is healthy, Regin will have a very good season, allowing BM to trade him at the deadline.
[*]

Biggest bust/fail?
Milan Michalek, I don't see him repeating his 35g season. Is 50 pts for Karlsson considered a fail??

[*]Any awards?
No

Will the Sens make the playoffs?
Unlikely but not out of the realm of the possible

If yes: Points and how deep will they go?
If they make the playoffs they'l be an 8th or 7th seed, I can't see them getting past the second round in the best of cases.

Best rookie for the Sens and what are your expectations in points and play?
Silf should have this unless he has a hard time getting with the program. Anything over 40 points would be fantastic

Biggest surprise?
Latendresse: Greening who doesn't suck in terms of offense

Biggest bust/fail?
Alfie: his decline, if he returns, is inevitable. That being said, I can see Gonchar having a real rough time in his last year in Ottawa

Any awards?
I'm not touching this one.

There's a ton of potential fluctuation when a large number of points are gained through secondary assists. Karlsson can still have a great season without putting up 70+ points.

Visnovsky had 68 points in 10-11 and 27 points in 11-12. Green had 76 points in 09-10 and 24 points in 10-11 (a 40 point pace.) Yandle had 59 points in 10-11 and 43 points in 11-12. Drew Doughty had 59 points 09-10 and 40 points in 10-11. It's not uncommon for offensive defensemen to see a drop in points when the other teams start adjusting more for them. You could see a similar effect to that with Karlsson in the playoffs. He'll learn to adjust as well, but after the season he just had people should temper their expectations. A 45 - 50 point season is still a good one.

Yes; 104 points 5th seed.
2nd Round
Silfverberg, 21 goals 30 assists, 3rd in Calder Voting.
Turris scores 30 goals.
Latendresse, after an incredible first couple weeks of the season, goes down for the year.
Karlsson wins the Norris, Hart and Art Ross, becoming only the fourth player ever to post 100 assists in a year. (26-103-129)

Book that ****.

I wouldn't be surprised by those totals if he missed half the season with the injury, so it could be true if Karlsson is injured.

If not injured, Karlsson can sleep walk to those points just by shooting aimlessly at the net a million times a game.

Biggest surprise? Eric Karlsson continues his trend of increasing his point total every year and pushes for 100
Biggest bust/fail? Marc Methot, since it seems it's already been decided.
Any awards? Erik Karlsson - Norris, Eric Karlsson - Art Ross, Eric Karlsson - Hart

Perhaps slightly optimistic, but you never know, you just never know.

Poor guy mistaken this board with the Oilers one. At least he has the decency to have an Erik Karlsson avatar to make it look like he's one of us.

no playoffs. Spezza, Alfie, Michalek and Gonchar will combine to miss 40+ games.
Silfverberg puts up a 30 point pace.
Phillips surprises some and stays in the top-4.
Regin surprises with 40 points in 70 games on the wave of strong 2nd half.
Turris, expected to carry the load of development to stave off our age-related declines disappoints with a 15g, 40 point full season.
Alfie could be in line for the Messier award.

Spezza

Spezza will get around 1ppg

You know the chances that those guys miss an average of 10games are pretty high, right?

Silfverberg puts up a 30 point pace.
That's a bit low, 40-45 is more likely if he is given the chance to play the full in the top 6 and to see some PP time

Phillips surprises some and stays in the top-4.
Ahead of Methot, EK, Cowen and Gonchar?

Regin surprises with 40 points in 70 games on the wave of strong 2nd half.
Your expectations for this guy doesn't match his tendency of getting injured in the last two years but you have no problem saying that four guys will miss an average of 10 games this year.

Turris, expected to carry the load of development to stave off our age-related declines disappoints with a 15g, 40 point full season.
What would you considered an ok season for Turris? 45-55pts?

Alfie could be in line for the Messier award.

Are you for real? Who would replace Cowen? Can we be realistic here?

5.Biggest bust/fail? Silfverberg

If he gets between 35-45 a lot of fans would be very happy

1. Maybe - I think we will end up somewhere between 10-7, it will be close right to the end of the season.

2. Similar points to this year, same 1st round exit but we don't take our opponent to 7 games.

3. Silvferberg - 60 points

4. Spezza steps up and take the mantle from Alfy showing that he has what it takes to be a leader.

5. Zbad

6. Karlsson for Norris.

Final Thoughts: I feel like the team has not improved at all from last year, and if anything has slightly declined. We did not bring in anybody that is going to make us better, while depending on a lot of young talent to be quality NHL players.

I think we will see a small but noticeable decline in the play of Alfie and Gonchar, and they will not have the same kind of seasons they had this past year.

Spezza and Karlsson will be responsible for most the offense on this team, and when another team can effectively shut them down we will have a difficult time winning. The new young guys in the lineup are going to do well, but will need that year or two to become acclimated to the level of competition in the NHL.

I think Cowen improves dramatically from last season and by the end of the year we see a Karlsson/Cowen pairing that will be the future of our D for years to come.

The additions of Methot, Latendresse, and Lundin will not help push this team to a second round in the playoffs. However, the experience guys like Silvferberg and other rookies will get this year will prime us for a real legit run at the cup for the following years. Sadly, Murray did not do enough to give Alfie one more run at the Cup.

Obviously this is all speculation, we gotta let them play to see how it all unfolds.
