2012 Minnesota #2 Prospect

Shockingly, Mikael Granlund is for the third straight year, HF Wild's #1 prospect with 86.43% of the vote. Sadly that's less than last year but as long as things go well Finnish Baby Jesus won't have to finish out his Presidential prospect term on top.

2012 HF Wild Prospect Rankings
1. Mikael Granlund

I'm guessing #2 will be closer (if only by default) because 3 or 4 prospects merit being the second-best. Options are the same besides the addition of Darcy Kuemper. As always, polls are open for two days. Not one. Not three. Two.

This is where it gets interesting. The Wild have such a tight group of blue chip prospects thanks to the work of Fletcher & Flahr. That being said, I take Jonas Brodin here with little hesitation. He may not have the offensive upside some people hoped for and will probably not put up big numbers, but I'm confident he will be a rock defensively and great at making the first pass and starting the transition. He is just such a smart player and his skating is an absolute joy to watch. He also has already built an impressive resume in his club team in Sweden and on the international stage. I see him as a reliable #2 defenceman that eats minutes and is just steady, always steady on the blue line. Ideally to be paired with someone more offensive and high risk type of defenceman to fully utilize his skillset.

15 to 1. I'd say, is it time for #3?

Bacon Boy Brodin, the man who would be #1 if not for the FBJ.

I can see these polls following the trend of "which prospect is most NHL-ready?"

Well i've heard "elite" thrown about more in relation to Brodin than anyone else in our system so while we might be going NHL ready that doesn't mean Brodin wouldn't win this anyway. And Bulmer is more NHL ready than anyone else after but theres no way he's going #3.

Yeah, and I think that's a shame. When we look back at these polls 5 or even 10 years later it will look silly that some NHL-ready prospects got placed higher than future impact players. That's why I will pick Dumba for #3, I just think his upside and potential impact is higher than anyone else in our system not named Granlund or Brodin, despite Coyles, Larssons and Zuckers being much safer bets at this point.

Well, we did rank Gillies ahead of Zucker, Larsson and Bulmer a couple years ago.

There's that and the 7th overall pick in this year's draft with zero votes. Come a long way from the "first round pick automatically gets #1" trend.

Everyone has their own interpretations of how prospects should be ranked and which attributes are more important.
