Gagne- Dec injury not what it appreared

This is an interview with Simon Gagne , in which he speaks about the
the mass (size of a tennis ball) that was removed from his neck .

http://www.simongagne.com/2012/07/17...s-in-the-neck/

It was three years growing and the cause of pain for all that time. He says the Philly and TB team doctors wouldb't remove it; the Kings doctors did and he feels good, really good.

He said that the Dec injury was treated as a concussion but really wasn't; the pain he suffered originally attributed to concussions was really due to the mass and the location.
Good for him, good for the Kings, he''ll be 100% and pain free for the first time in years.

Why wouldn't the other doctors remove it? Sounds weird.

Maybe it's just the a matter of the team not wanting to take the risk - they probably told Simon to get his own surgeon to remove it. Sounds like the team being a *****, but in his age and career stage, perhaps it wasn't worth it to those teams.

Thank God the Kings are different. A healthy, happy, motivated Simon would be awesome news for the defense of the Cup and bad news for the rest of the league.

Have a great offseason Simon!

Awesome indeed. Imagne how good he must feel? He's been waking up in pain evey day for years..just being free of that and the painkillers he took willbe a huge weight lifted . I can't wait to see him healthy and tailgunning with his best pilot, Richards.

Yeah..that makes sense. But, it seems like it could have been done in the offseason. They were happy with a 50% Simon than a healthy one that could miss some hockey. I'm glad its done now though.

That line of Gagne-Richards-Carter now has a decent chance of recapturing that 'ole Philly magic. I know I know Penner played well there and so did King but again just shows how this team is STACKED.

There is also the possibility that the teams he played on considered it a "Non-hockey related" injury. Therefore it wouldn't be their responsibility to remove it.

I mean maybe that is the case. It was something that wasn't hockey related that got worse and worse and started effecting his playing.

I wonder if this has hobbled his production in recent years?

Maybe we'll get to see a renewed Gagne next season.

That + a motivated Penner, would be amazing.

We could be the best 1 through 4 LW in the league.

Hate to be that guy, but JW is a right wing. Brown is playing left now. Doesn't change the substance of your point, though.

Great news and I'm hoping for a bounce back season but how do the Kings sign a player with a mass in his neck? The Kings have been notorious for signing or trading for players that are hurt in the past-what's going on in the physicals? Is it just an eyeball test? Have they heard of this new thing called an MRI? Is Gagne good at tennis?

It's all a coverup.

This is what they really found inside Gagne...

A healthy Gagne makes the Kings even tougher for the opposition to match lines.

Necks are super tricky and it's very easy to paralyze a patient

Both Penner and Gagne have something to prove, and they both know this might be their last chance to land another big contract.

The first part of the article implies that the doctors for the Flyers and Lightnings believed that the mass was inoperable, and that it was the specialists for the Kings that determined that it could be removed safely via surgery.

If there is a strong belief that something is inoperable in that it could cause harm to the patient and lead to bad post-surgery outcomes like paralysis or death then they are not going to risk it. There would just be way too much liability for the doctor, the hospital, and the insurance company all around.

I did too and woke up with a "crick" in my neck. Where's your office?

Our doctors are schooling the rest of the league left and right, first Fraser and now Gagne.

The Kings reputation as an organization has to be growing at this point.

Not to mention the recoveries of Wiliams and (especially) Kopitar.
