From this moment forward, I will refer to my testicles as "Holmgrens".

Say it ever year. Holmgren is awesome.

The Schenn bros will be pleased with this.

The issue is there's not an overlap from the summer "go 10% over the cap free" period and the day when LTIR can be used. So they'll have to get creative on opening day. Or they'll just move Meszaros and roll with Kimmo-Weber, Coburn-Grossmann, Schenn-Gervais/Gus/MAB/Lilja. I actually think that's most likely, though I hope they can convince a GM they don't HAVE to move Meszaros so they don't get stuck with another Gagne-for-Walker pile of putrescence.

And some of you guys thought we were going into the season with what we currently have on the roster at D. Even if Nashville matches, Homer is going to make a move to improve the defense one way or another.

That's a 99 defense in NHL 13.
They had a 99 defense in 12 believe it or not.

Holmgren probably thought the off season was getting boring and he wanted to shake things up.

nashville will match. mark it. Basically, Weber just committed to nashville for 14 years. Maybe it was his way of getting what he wanted out of the negotiations.

To me it is as simple as that. I did not see how we were going to be able to compete with other teams for his services at the trade deadline so this is the next best option.

Man the NHL has top secret meetings for RFAs. In the NBA, guys openly visit teams and sometimes work out for them. This came out of no where.

Homer has always been one of my favorite flyer figures. I never got to see him as a player but as a coach and GM he is an entertaining man.

I have no doubt Nashville will match it. They would have matched Suter, but he wouldn't listen. You think they'll let their franchise walk out the door when all they have to do is match it?

Holmgren knows how to keep it fun.

Only for this guy do you give up this many picks; now to see what Nashville does in response.

Honestly, I don't know why Homer did this. I came here looking for ideas in case there was something I missed, but it just seems so crazy. Nashville is guaranteed to match. Hell, they might even match first thing in the morning. They are under the floor, and if Weber wants to be traded, the market just got larger than ever for Weber. Teams, like the Islanders, who also need to worry about the cap floor, had no interest in him because they would have to spend a fortune and he would leave in a year, now he can go anywhere as he is signed till all eternity. He could arguably cost more for the Flyers in a trade now that his value and marketability has shot up. I don't know why they wouldn't just wait for free agency if a trade couldn't be made. This makes little sense to me. I love the Flyers, but man this move leaves me puzzled.

John Boruk had a column dated June 20 on the matter ("Here are eight reasons I believe the Flyers should submit an offer sheet for Predators defenseman Shea Weber"), since posted on Kukla's site:

Jets fan here...

Zero chance Nashville doesn't match.

You've done nothing but make an enemy. If you guys ever have an RFA at any point in the future, Nashville will make him an offer sheet, forcing you guys to pay up, ****ing up your cap and what not.

If i were you guys, i'd be straight up pissed off with Holmgren
