I know it's hard to believe, but Eklund does have some credibility with Flyers information. Not saying I believe it, but he does, apparently.

What is the NHL coming to, this is becoming a joke. I hope none of these players ever hoist the cup. Weber will end his career cupless and with no norris's, in a perfect world.

I don't doubt them, but great scouting isn't going to replace 2 defensemen like that quickly. There simply isn't a Weber or a Suter in many draft classes.

The offer sheet is built to discourage Nashville from matching. He is gone no matter what. Nashville has the choice of matching and holding on to a disgruntled Weber for an entire year, hoping that he will play to the same level under those circumstances, plus paying out 25 mil before trading him, versus taking now four first round picks and saving 25 mil...what do you think that a team like Nashville will do? For the ones that think that he "played" the Flyers to secure his future, I don't think that he would have signed a fully front-loaded 14-year contract unless he wanted to leave, which would mean that yes he would be disgruntled for an entire year before being traded, if the Preds would choose to match.

I agree that they can possibly get more than four very late first draft picks, but will the potential difference be worth more than the 25 mil saved for them? I don't think so. They will not match and turn the page very quickly, and hope that the fans will forget about their unprecedented screwup this summer, which is losing 2 of the 5 best D-Men for 4 VERY LATE first round picks.

Like I have previously mentioned (yes sarcastically) that the way this management has performed since the end of the season (add the Radulov saga), I think that we may have found a home for Gomez...he will help them...hit the cap floor!

Sorry again for Nashville fans...you certainly deserved better than what you have been served this summer.

With the 20% thing, that means as of right now at 70.2M cap (or whatever, 70.3M), is 14.04M per year of salary is allowed max.

As an oiler fan I feel for preds fans. In the 80s and 90s this was a show we saw every off season. We learned one thing today. Pronger is hurt bad

Btw. The nhl could void the offer because this will put the flyers over the cap grace period. I have to look at the numbers but - think this puts them over the 10percent limit

You're double-counting his signing bonus.

edit: and Bryz made $10mil also. $5m base plus $5m signing bonus.

Signing bonus messes things up

As of right now Ehrhoff has made $15 million from his new contract. how?

1 - $2mill // 8mill bonus = $10 mill
2 - $3mill // 5mill bonus = $8 mill

However signing bonuses are paid out on July 1, even though the season doesnt start until October. So even if there is a lockout, he already made $5million.

So how can Shea Webber make $26 million next year from the Preds? $14million from his first year contract and its bonus for next year (say @ $12 million). And if he does get traded afterwards, the new team only has to pay his actual salary ($2million) for the remainder of that season.

He will now never wear a Flyers jersey.

Poile will match.
Weber will play a year at an outrageous contract.
He will be traded next year for a kings randsom and Poile will make sure it's not to Philly.

yes, here is your Philly shocker of the year.

I have my doubts that the Preds will match it. Looks like it's front loaded with bonuses and the Preds would have to pay him that. Getting the picks does nothing for the Preds as of now, but if Weber wants out, be happy that he is in the other conference

Nitpicking, but they only made $10M in bonuses. $10M for signing, $2M salary, $10M again on July 1 2013. $22 million.

I wanted to add that. You could definitely trade 5 1st round draft picks to say NYI for Tavares.

You essentially traded Weber and a 1st for Tavares.

It would really be hard to say no to 5 1st round draft picks for a 1st overall. And Nashville has been looking for a franchise forward for a while. Plus, Nashville is great at pounding out D.

If I'm Nashville Management, **** Weber, he can go to hell right now.

Pretty sure he's done. Tim Panaccio has been saying Pronger sold his house in Philadelphia and moved back to St Louis months ago.

I just think that's its too hard to be able to foresee 8 or 10 years down the road on some of these monster contracts and truly assess their value.

In addition, there should always be value in players whose cap hits>their salaries. At the tail end of one of these 10 year deals these players may have value to teams that are looking to hit the cap floor.
The thing is, the way the salaries are structured now is that you won't see caphit greater than salary until late in the contract. Most of the deals you see where they have value to cap floor teams are much shorter terms, such as a 6 year front loaded contract in year 3-5. These 14 year contracts have zero value and are structured in a way to circumvent the cap and then just buyout the remaining contract later on. Short term solutions.

Not too long ago we criticized Charles Wang for handing out outrageous term contracts to DiPietro and Yashin. Both of those deals blew up spectacularly in his face. Now you see Gillis thinking he was some sort of genius offering Luongo this new trendy term contract and, guess what? It's blowing up in his face too!

I haven't seen any long term contract anywhere that has played out perfectly, and we have plenty to choose from both recently and pre-lockout.
