Depends if our "reliable" rumor guy in Ek is right and the numbers are actually higher or if Dreger is right. Depends on the AAV salary the contract has.

So if this DOES happen for us (which I hope it does), any way we could get a 1st rounder for our 2014 draft in Philly?

I would love to see a 1st rounder we choose in the city during the draft. Having said that, Weber is ideal for our team and our D.

Do we have ANYTHING on our roster that MAY be able to pry a 1st rounder from a team in the time frame of 2 years from now?

As others said, losing the 1st due to the Weber offer sheet - it's NOT that big of a deal for most (myself included) but it would be nice to see a draft pick walk on stage for us as we HOST the draft - know what I am saying....

EDIT: I have to poo with excitement of the news when I woke up...

Homer is the man. I know many hate him.....but I love the guy. Manages like he played, all out. Beauty. I see either:

1. Nashville doesn't match and we get him for 2 1st's +
2. Nashville and Philly work exclusively on a trade, but now Homer knows Shea is signed long term.
3. Nashville matches and he remains a Predator. Sucks, but at least he isn't a Penguin

It's 4 1sts.

$100 / 5 = $20 M compensation group.

5 is the maximum divisor.

Doh! Forgot about the 5 year part.. So Dreger had it right at first on twitter and then "corrected" himself. Then again he doesn't know all the details yet.

For me, there are two ways of looking at it. Either Holmgren, who is very impatient and a big-time gambler, said '**** it' and sent the sheet to Weber, or he and Poile plotted to make it work for both sides. If it's the latter, the Flyers guarantee their investment instead of trading away a bunch of assets, unsure of whether or not Weber will stay. The flipside is Poile matches and he thanks Holmgren for securing Weber as a Predator.

I just don't think Holmgren would send Weber an offer sheet without having talked it over with Poile. The Flyers are a loyal bunch. The only thing that makes me think otherwise is that Holmgren does have one of the itchiest trigger fingers. It's all or nothing.

Does anyone think that it might be a manageable cap hit like 7.5 or 7.75 and there is just so much money to be paid out in the first couple of years that the Preds can't match it financially?

Not that it really matters. You pay Shea Weber top money to have him if you can.

our top 4 coulbe be set for a good amount os years here.

Coburn-Weber
Grossman-Schenn

Claude was back home for the Canada Day weekend.. had the pleasure of talking a bit with him.. Take good care of this gem of a hockey player.. Plus Claude is an amazing kid.. He gave back 10,000$ to his local foundation here in Hearst. (his home town).

I can't see the Preds not matching this offer...

and this means the Preds can't trade him to the flyers.. I'm i right aobut this?
Don't worry, the Flyers know what they have in Giroux. He'll be re-signed to a career deal before he's even able to hit restricted free agency in 2014.

Re: Weber... well, this is sure to be an interesting week.

I was rather surprised to see this headline while eating breakfast this morning. I can't say I disagree with the move. Weber is what this team needs: a top flight d-man who can replace everything Pronger brought to the table.

If the Flyers do end up acquiring him, I'm curious to see if it is handled like the Chris Gratton situation: a deal gets worked out where the Flyers get some/all of their picks back in exchange for players. I don't think the Flyers have a choice here in terms of trading away at least one d-man. The numbers (salary cap and total #) at the D position just get ridiculous otherwise.

But *******, Weber on this team? Definitely awesome-sauce.

I know there are no signs for it to happen, but could you just imagine if Pronger were to come back and we get Weber

It seems like some people on the main board don't think Nashville has to match the exact value year by year of the deal. I'm almost positive they do. Also if he got a NMC/NTC I think that is part of the deal as well.

I'm not dreaming right, this really happened last night!!??

I have to imagine that this deal is significantly more than what Nashville was offering. Wouldn't make sense for him to sign it if it wasn't, knowing that they would match it. Doesn't mean Nashville won't match, but I can't imagine Weber signing an offer sheet that is just a little more than what they are already offering (unless he is just using this deal as leverage to get it done with Nashville, which I suppose is entirely possible).

In other RFA notes...if Nashville matches, is it the entire deal or just the first year of it? I know they don't negotiate a new deal or anything but I am just not sure what the matched deal turns out to be.

Maybe an "accident" during practice resulting in season ending surgery for Lilja could be a result. J/K... sort of.

On a serious note... I love this. If the rumors were true about Homer driving up the price on Suter.. and now offer sheet to Weber... it can be argued that Homer just trolled the entire group of Eastern Conference heavyweights this summer.

AWESOME!!!!!!!!!

I feel like Poile and Holmgren talked about this before it happened. This seems like a calculated move, like there is some sort of underlying trade in the works, but the offer sheet lays the groundwork for the terms of the long-term deal. Or Homer put together the offer sheet with terms that Poile was comfortable with so that Weber stays in Nashville and the Flyers bar rivals from getting him.

Can't Nashville trade the 1sts they acquire back to Philly for players? Something is going on, I just can't seem the Flyers throwing a stick of dynamite at the Preds like this considering their amiable dealings in the past...

Then again what the H do I know? lol

I always thought they had to match the exact offer sheet that was signed.

I wonder if Nashville's fax machine is smudge free?!
