I voted for Semin. The negative trash talk about him does worry me, although we are not in the Caps locker room. The Caps looked like a bunch of stiffs in the 24/7 series, maybe a change would do Semin some good. I think he would excel playing with the best 2 centers in the world, and at age 28, he is in his prime. A right handed shot on PP, YES!.

I always liked Doan, I don't think he will leave PHX., and I would be hesitant to offer anything over 2 years.

Yes I'm not signed 'cause I'm asking for too much $. But back in May, I didn't know 'I deserve 2x as much as Wideman' was really that much.

Thats OK. Look at the insane list of FA's next year. I would rather the Pens go after Iggy, Clowe or Elias than Doan.

Semin is interesting. Tons of skill, RHer, should fit like a glove on the PP and I think the Pens give him the freedom he needs to be a star again. Maybe he comes to the Pens and end up being like Nedved and just fitting the Pens to a tee. The on ice, not trying rep doesn't worry me. I actually don't think his effort is that bad. Has anyone heard about himn being a jerk in the locker room? I haven't.

I will be Hossa-level rabid for Iginla at the deadline this season, so I totally agree with you there. But as Ogrezilla point out there are always a lot of pending UFA's at this point but 90% of the good ones will have re-signed before then.

Wow im surprised that Semin has that many votes over Doan. I voted Doan. We lacked a solid vet guy like him last year.

Neither of the above. Would prefer Doan, however not at 4 years.

I voted neither, I'd rather see Bennett make the team and tried with Crosby for at least 10 games if they click in the pre-season, or hell, anyone on the roster currently (including the AHL, new or otherwise).

Between the two, if I had to pick, Alex Semin.

2nded... but I would want Semin out of the two. People are going to crap all over Doan once they watch him night after night. Just like they did wth Billy G.

Which one? People loved the one who was traded here and helped us win a Cup. They hated the one whose wheels fell completely off.

Well since its Disco's system of puck get I'm thinking Doan looks like the latter.

I disagree. I think Doan has wheels, and he's more than willing to engage and get dirty. I think he'd be fine.

Don't get me wrong I like Doan too. I just don't like the Pens talking about puck possession and puck management and then going out to play a glorified dump and chase game.

I would agree that Billy G lost some wheels at the end but its the Pens system that made him look even worse. Its inefficient.

The Pens system is inefficient? If executed correctly, it's one of the most efficient in the league.

I'm OK with the inbetween stuff but I hate the defensive structure and the lack of offensive set up.

No... more about having some poise with the puck and setting up quality shots rather than shooting from everywhere. Even the PP is nothing but... work puck to point, get off shot, rush the net...

Holding pucks on the end boards and cycling in the corners is fine but if its leading to poor shots on goal... who cares? Its used to be a way to take the pressure off a D with mobility problems but now the Pens have spent a ton of money correcting the D. I guess?????

I love Doan, but I'm leary of offering him more than 2 or 3 years (MAX), and even still, I think Semin brings more of a unique skill set.

I do believe that we have enough of a physical element to our team with guys like Neal, Cooke, Dupuis, Vitale, Kunitz, etc., and while clearly Tangradi is not as good as Doan, I think he is capable of providing that element of size & net-front presence. And obviously we have a fantastic group of leaders on our team, so Doan's leadership wouldn't be quite as vital as it would for other teams (i.e. Washington, Carolina, Vancouver, San Jose).

So based on organizational needs and strengths & weaknesses, I think Semin fills our needs better, and has more of a potential for a longer-term future if he performs well.

I don't see Doan to Pittsburgh happening. I can't see Ray giving him 3+ years and it sounds like that's what he wants. Along with staying in Phoenix or somewhere in the West.

I'd like to give Semin one year but anything long term scares the crap out of me.

At this point After Philly signed Weber, there is no way the Penguins do not sign seming for at least one year!

Doaner. He'd be great with Xby.

But he has to come in at less than $6m per. I don't care about the 4 years. That's fine. I don't care about $6m. That's fine.

Hell, give him $7.5 next year. That's fine.

The point is the cap hit, and what he'll be making when he's around 40.

7.5 + 6 + 4 + 1.5 = 19m contract (Doan's number).

There, he can make 7.5 AND 6 and we're all still happy with a 4.75m cap hit.
