I like how the poster shows a costume that appears to be made of chainmail. I hope that that's representative of how it'll look in the movie. One of the things that I've always found to be dumb about Superman is that he appears to wear simple fabric that, somehow, causes bullets to ricochet off of. I know that his superhuman-ness goes beyond his outfit (unlike Batman, who is a totally normal and mortal human), but it's still easier to accept him being bullet-proof if we can understand how he's bullet-proof. Also, a chainmail outfit implies that he's more mortal, and that's good for relatability and story. Finally, it just looks cooler than the Spandex look to Superman that we're used to.

I really am very sick of all of these movies based on comic books (which I'm a total non-fan, too) and wish that they'd go away, but, if Hollywood is going to make them, I can at least hope that they're watchable. This one will probably be watchable, considering that it's Nolan, and I do like the chainmail touch, so, we'll see.

Superman is bullet proof, IIRC the comics have mentioned that his suits don't get damaged while he's wearing them because his protective aura extends to anything that is in close contact with his skin.

I find Superman to be the least interesting superhero, but Christopher Nolan touching it? It might actually be good. I wasn't really a huge fan of Batman until the Nolan films, so he's changed my views before.

I thought that was from the Science of Superman on the Discovery channel (or something like that). Haven't there also been versions where the suit was made from the cloth that was in the ship he used to come to earth?

Yes I think that explanation was used for his original suit, that it was made out of pieces of his spaceship but we've also seen a closet full of suits in the comics too.

Your question has been answered already, but in the film, his suit is from Krypton.

I remember reading stories that explained it that they were made of the clothes he had in his ship and that Martha Kent made the suit with the help of Clark's heat vision(was able to cut the fabric).

I don't know man. The Nolan-Batman approach to a Superman movie making it all gritty, dark and real or whatever words you want to use, could be kind of neat. If this is one of the worst trailers ever than Superman Returns might be the worst. That movie sucked balls and I'd bet my life that this will be far more enjoyable than that abortion was.

I said the trailer sucked, i'm sure the movie will be fine. It just didn't show much of anything.

Well, it isn't really a trailer, just a teaser.

Wow, that teaser is awesome. Sets the tone, atmosphere, and visual style of the film perfectly.

TEASER was amazing and once I saw Nolans name on it I became much more pumped. The atmosphere/feel/vibe of the teaser makes me feel they are finally gonna get it right with Superman

Meh, maybe it was because of the trash the last attempt at a reboot for this failed so miserably, I don't have the highest hopes and the teaser didn't help.

Well, at least they didn't use that godawful, overused cue from Requiem for a Dream for the teaser!*

At any rate, I prefer the teaser with the Jor-El voiceover to the Jonathan Kent one, but I think they are both fine.

*The music worked well for the actual film, but waaaaaaay too many people have used for anything "epic" that it has since become incredibly grating to listen to it.

The Jor-El(Russel Crowe) version:

I prefer this one, especially the "In time, they will join you in the sun". If you understand Kryptonians and Superman well, you will probably understand why that's a great line.

Surprisingly,a few people missed the point of the teasers. The comic-con trailer was better, but that was because it was nearly a full trailer for the commited geeks. This trailer is just a TEASER for the general public, and they wanted to reveal part of that they will do in this film, which is to portray the Suprman's struggle with his identity.
