And if not, hey, we have the space and we have Sid's winger for a decade. Even at a 3M overpay.
we don't even know if Giroux can keep up the success he's had last season, and the Devils have shown that if you pressure him like the Flyers have to Crosby and Malkin, then he becomes somewhat of a non-factor.
i'd only offer sheet him something that i KNOW the Flyers would match, but it would also have to cripple them cap-wise.
Down Goes Brown @DownGoesBrown
Weber: "I signed long-term with the Flyers because I want to win a Cup, and this seems like the easiest way to wind up doing that in LA."

Well as others have said, he's not going to July 1st anyway. He will be locked up to a long term deal as soon as allowed.
Kirk: it would cost him LESS if your 7yr, $63M thing (not sure where that came from) is true. Right now his hit is being calculated at around $7.8M. The hit you're talking about would've been $9M.
Yes, the cap hit is better than Poile was looking at.
BUT, the money being paid over 7 years is 86M, not 63M.
THAT is over 3M more per year than Poile would pay over 7 years.
Still, Poile was prepared to keep both Weber AND Suter.
He'll match and allocate less to Suter replacement money.
I still say what he gets in return-- the ability to have all of Weber's prime years and then to trade him anywhere and anytime thereafter for what most assuredly still would be a bounty-- is worth it.
I think the people saying match and trade are doing it under the assumption that signing an offer sheet is Weber declaring he doesn't want to be there.
Weber needed to sign the offer sheet. The new CBA will kill deals like this. He wants to win. He doesn't want out of Nashville. BUT, he wanted a front-loaded lifetime deal to stay, which is something Poile wasn't offering.
I do agree: Poile will match. BUT, as I keep saying, he'll move him in 6-8 years (probably 8 given how front-loaded the deal is).
To those saying Nashville can't match, weren't they already looking at this kind of offer to Suter? And if/when they do match, they'd still be under the cap floor.
Bummer, there goes the chance of getting the Semin scenario wrapped up anytime soon. If I'm Semin I hold out to see what Nashville does. In the unlikely scenario that they don't match and take the draft picks, I'm going to get PAID to help get the team to the cap floor.

why are you arguing with me? I was just explaining the thought process of others
Guys Giroux is not signing an offer sheet here... ever. Partly because we won't make him one, partly because he'd never sign it.
Let's dispense with the "glorious revenge theories" (we don't even know what's going to happen with Weber) that are never going to happen because it's only going to muck up the thread as more Flyer fans notice it.
And BTW Flyer fans are welcome to post here so don't tell them to leave. If they troll, flame, etc by all means PM a mod and we'll handle it.
And now back to your regular angst and gnashing of FA teeth.

Disagree. They may up their offer a little bit, but they're not going to overpay money or term to a questionable player, still. Also, if Weber were to leave for futrues only, Nashville would outright suck, and would have very little chance of having a chance to win. That makese it an undesirable destination, IMO, compared to Pens or other options.

They were prepared, from a budget perspective, to keep BOTH Weber AND Suter. Poile was offering Suter a deal like Minnesota, and he was thinking about extending Weber for up to 9M a year, depending upon term. What do you think?
Maybe, but we don't know that they were willing to do the crazy frontloading.
And I think Holmgren thinks there's at least a chance they don't match or he wouldn't be doing this.
