The offersheet means that Weber will never ever be a Penguin.

Please match though Nashville. Please match.

Philly's D will be massive: Weber - Grossman - Coburn - Schenn - Meszaros

Compared to the Pens' D (as of now): Martin - Orpik - Letang - Niskanen - Engelland

Yikes...

You can never say never, but possibility of it happening is less than the hair on your chinny chin chin.

They can match it and trade him after a year if he's not happy there.

I'm sure that's exactly what Philly has in mind. Counter our investment in Sid for the next decade with a guy who can ram him into the boards for the next decade.

We are going to have to get impact from the farm. The good news is at least one of Despres, Morrow, Dumoulin should make a big impact sooner than later and that will help us. The Flyers also still don't have Weber for sure.

Paul Holmgren may have just killed a franchise and caused a full on lock out.

There is absolutely no way the Predators can match this contract. None. There is no way they can put up the $27 million up front, especially the bonuses. Losing their best player means they can't compete, attendance will fall, and the team will be in danger of moving.

******* obscene and outrageous.

This also cements a lock out so get ready for no hockey next season. This just made the situation much, much worse.

they fully intended to sign both Weber and Suter. That means you are most likely wrong about their ability to match this. They might not want to. Maybe they won't. But they absolutely can.

My guess is that Weber knew Poile would match this offer sheet no matter what and it was his only way to get his big payday in Nashville before the new CBA kicks in.

I'm sure we did something similar with Parise, but this **** needs to stop. Not fair to teams who can't afford front loaded contracts. 1 million dollar salary the last 3 years is a joke.

We can only hope so. Philly's D doesn't depend on anyone "stepping up" really, they are all NHL caliber players and Weber - Coburn - Grossman - Schenn, at least, all play with a nasty streak. I don't really get that vibe from Despres, maybe Dumoulin and Morrow, though Morrow is smaller.

If Pronger came back, CAP would say "Hi" They would have to move someone in that situation.

And why is everyone so down in the dumps? Weber is a great player, but his possible acquisition doesn't make Philly a lock to do anything. Need a reminder .... we were supposed to celebrating a cup win this year ... instead

I'm guessing Poile is going to at least talk to Holmgren first about seeing how serious he is about Weber, i.e. Couturier, Simmonds, Schenn, Read, etc, etc. If he doesn't get a massive overpayment, he'll just sign Weber.

Plus, he'll need to talk with the owners about shelling out major $.
