I think Whitmore wants to play for the Pirates. He's RT'd a few followers' expressions of hope that he return to that organization. His wife is from Portland, ME and he seems to very much like that area. Portland may be a better fit for him and his family, and he may have a better chance of getting a recall in the Coyotes organization.

#Sabres Darcy Regier on #Amerks. "We are filling up quickly in Rochester. If we sign another player, it probably is just one, maybe two."

I really think he can pull out a Jonathan Audy-Marchessault (his former teammate) and get an NHL deal after his first professional season.

Would be nice at least.

If he could 2/3rds the player JAM is, he'd be near the top of the Amerks in scoring the way their lineup is built this year.

Reaching...
Not at all - I posed this very theory under another thread but incorrectly figured signing Roy for an AHL spot to keep Grigorenko company without realizing that Grigorenko can't be assigned to Rochester.

Either way, Roy and Grigorenko are very close friends:

Quote:
Grigorenko’s presence also helped Roy reach a new level. The two played beside each other all season, forming a bond on and off the ice. As Roy spoke to a reporter Wednesday, Grigorenko waited close by for his friend.

He called Roy “one of the best linemates in my life” and a player who “makes you better.”

“He’s a great person,” Roy said about Grigorenko. “He’s a hard worker. We’ve got good chemistry together. We work really well together. … We love playing together. So it’d be a great opportunity for us to play together.”

Hey, I was going with the Q' angle.

I figure he's got a leg up on Parker immediately. Lagace's got pro experience and could have better defensive chops at the outset. But back-to-back 10-goal seasons isn't exactly setting anyone's hair on fire. Boychuk likely fills more of a meat-wagon role, he's looking quicker in Dev Camp and has to prove why he has that contract. Szydlowski... Not sure. He's somewhere between Lagace and Boychuk. But right now, given Dev Camp, Roy's got a leg up on at least Parker right now, if not all of 'em.

I have a couple stupid questions. Let's say Roy completely rips things up in the AHL this year. Since he was signed to a AHL/ECHL contract, we would have to sign him to an NHL contract to bring him up, correct? Could any other team sign him to an NHL contract, or do we have his rights at the NHL level?

Can we change the title to "Amerks sign Frederick Roy"?

Looking at the capgeek, only Pardy, Flynn, Mancari, Legace, Crawford and Leggio are FA next year (assuming the guys like Tropp and such are re-signed, which seems fair). So they could get him inked to an ELC next year if he impresses. And they can always throw in a prospect in a trade for future considerations to open up a contract spot if they need to.

Hopefully he can impress down there.

Have to sign him to a NHL deal, like Finley last year.

Wow. I didn't know they were good friends. I do remember Frederick from his Littleton playing days (way long ago... never coached him since he played at a higher level than my son did). Recall he was a fiesty player even back then.

Also wondering if whether Darcy and Lindy have given any thought to possibly playing with fire here? (I.e.; drawing father Patrick a little bit closer to the Sabre family...... just supposing mind you.....)

I don't know if they've thought about it, but I know i have. It's a pipe dream though...

So this is an AHL/ECHL deal? Any idea on who the ECHL team will be?

The Sabres signed an affiliation agreement with the Gwinnett Gladiators last September: http://hfboards.hockeysfuture.com/sh...d.php?t=987753

ECHL Contracts are basically one year deals. Teams are slow at the wheels in this league. Some have yet to annouce any player signings.

Just saw that thread now that you posted it and I will agree our ownership group sucks when it comes to the business side of things, but I can't say the hockey team is anywhere as bad. The owner only cares about making cash and with that being said we usually field a good team. We had the 2nd best team in the league last year in the regular season.

But truth be told...this is likely that ownership groups last year in town the way I understand it. They got in a little too deep this past season. They are only back because all of the legal mumbo jumbo couldnt be solved by fall and the league needed to know.

Its Whitmore that wants to play elsewhere, its not from a lack of interest from the organization

It's from a mutual lack of interest.

I wonder if they plan on trying Roy as a bit of a shutdown type player, given his "Best Defensive Forward" nod in the Q this past year. Someone has to kill penalties and shadow people... may as well make it someone who tends toward the right bastardly side of things.

Portland seems like the place he wants to be, considering his wife is from there and how active he was in the community. I suspect that's where he winds up.

At least when announcers pronounce it the French-Canadian way, they'll be getting it right this time around.

Signings like this (and Joe Finley last year) were what I was hoping to see once Pegula bought the Amerks.
