Whats the deal with ennis?

Haven't heard much about whats going on with him...have I missed something? I saw a list of players set for arbitration and saw he wasn't listed for that which is something I thought would have most likely happened. If someone could help me understand whats going on that would be greatly appreciated.

From today:

Quote:
Briefly touching on other roster related matters, Regier said the team has had a conversation with representation for both restricted free agent forwards Tyler Ennis and Patrick Kaleta, and that both will continue throughout the week and moving forward.

He has no arbitration rights, so the lack of progress is pretty much expected right now.

Don't worry about it until camp opens and he's still without a contract.

Yep, there's no hurry with Ennis or Kaleta. They're not going anywhere, and they have the whole summer to get a deal done.

If I'm not mistaken when Miller was an RFA in 2006 they only got him signed in August. But it got done, even if it took some time.

He'll ask his mom, the hairdresser.

I know you're joking, but Ennis' agent is actually big on fiscal responsibility for his clients:
Quote:
For every aspiring hockey player, the dream is to suit up in the NHL. It doesn’t hurt that jumping from the minors to the big show also comes with a pay bump often in the range of 10 times the old amount.

Many prospects and fringe NHLers have different stipends depending on where they are plying their trade – and it’s a big difference. The minimum NHL salary is $500,000, but that same player may only earn, say, $67,500 in the American League.

The result is a mind trick many players must train themselves for. Anaheim’s Matt Beleskey, who played in both leagues last year, has the mantra down pat.

“When you’re playing in the NHL, live like you’re still in the AHL,” he said.

Agent Eustace King, whose clients include Buffalo’s Tyler Ennis and Atlanta’s Anthony Stewart (each of whom have earned money in both leagues), has a similar credo he instills in every one of his young charges.

“Save early and save often,” King said. “We tell that to the guys right away.”
http://www.thehockeynews.com/article...L-and-NHL.html

So Ennis can hold out and still be able to afford his haircuts.

And as Chain mentioned, he could also have his mom do it:

If I'm not mistaken, he cut his hair in Florida last October and then got hurt. I think Darcy signed Scott to beat up any hairdresser who gets near Ennis. Ennis is Samson. His strength depends on his hair.

Ennis is a cool hockey player. I hope a deal gets done before the season, same with Patrick Kaleta.

Any validity to the thought that Darcy won't sign either until he's satisfied with the roster, Ennis especially? This way he has the maximum amount of cap space to work with. When all the moves are finished they can sign Ennis and Kaleta to the remaining space.

I know its not likely but with Weber signing an OS any chance Ennis gets one? And you know if he does sign one it won't be anything near the 4 1sts in compensation....would suck big time if Ennis got one for 4-5+ and we only get 1 or 2 1sts out of it.

What makes you think Ennis would sign an OS? He seems very happy here, and he'll have a big opportunity here next year with Roy shipped out that he's unlikely to get with most other teams.

Im sure we'd match, but it would suck to have to pay him 4 or 5 mil a year when we should be able to sign him for much less... Its a moot point as he probably won't get an OS but as with the Weber OS and the Vanek one, you never know.

$$$$ talks. Vanek loves it here and he signed one to go to Edmonton of all places... I doubt any NHL player would turn down a massive offer sheet just because he "likes" it here. It's naive to think he would turn down millions upon millions just because he likes Buffalo... I'm sure he'd like New York or Detroit or any big market team too.

One is a number 1 dman, the other came off a 40 goal season.

Ennis has 15 good games at Center.

I don't see how Ennis is worth an OS.

Ryan Kesler got an offersheet before he broke out. It depends on how other teams view him, and I'd imagine other teams view him quite highly. That said, I think it's very unlikely to happen.

Yes, but Keslers OS was 1.9 mil for 1 season. So it's not like he got the world offered to him.

Nobody signs a undersized 15 games Center to a OS. I don't see how he's viewed highly around the league, when everything moves away from the open style small players rock thing to big and skilled.

You are right, other teams probably think he is horrible after finishing his 2nd season with 29 points in 33 games. Who would want that kind of production from a 22 year old?

With the Sabres lack of center depth, Ennis has about the most leverage a guy in his position could possibly have.
