If Nashville passes on Weber, does this increase the value of Martin for them? Cost controlled, veteran defenseman signed for the next 3 years could be pretty valuable and they might have a desperation level that works to our advantage.

Personally I would love this deal to happen and Philly gets Weber. It would seriously hurt their team in the next years. They would lose some of their depth. Free agents seldom perform to expectations too

they can pretty easily actually. Well, depending what happens with the cap. They currently have just enough space for both but need to re-sign Voracek. So they'd just need to open up however much space Voracek costs. ANd hope the CBA doesn't lower the cap without rolling back salaries.

If that ever happened than Weber would have to answer the bell to Deryk Engelland.

no, because they would have SHEA WEBER.

whether Predator fans like it or not, Martin's value should increase to Nashville if Weber's offer isn't matched.

i think the two main reasons for this are:
1. since trading Michalek, the Pens are now less inclined to move Martin and just keep him
2. Pittsburgh now knows that Nashville is in need of a top-4 defenseman if they lose Weber

so, because of just those two reasons, Martin's value should have increased significantly. the Pens have no reason to trade him at this point, and he fills an immediate need if Weber leaves Nashville, so i think they should use that chance to get Nashville to overpay for Martin.

I think they're not going to pass on Weber, but maybe.

That's some serious wishful thinking right there. They'd have to have major cap issues with the new CBA, in which case, we'd end up with major cap issues too very soon. This is bad every way you slice it except in terms of weakening their draft.

Yah they don't go for that much anymore. A couple times I got them to reduce my bill back to what it was (what a bonus!) for 6 months before they re-upped it. They have everyone by the balls in Chicago area because no other major cable carriers are allowed to compete it seems. AT&T sucks and they know it / they know people won't switch to AT&T.

People fail to understand that in Philadelphia, nobody is sacred.

If they have to exile someone to get that new toy they want, somebody's hitting the bricks, key centerpiece fan-favorite or not.

I'd hold that thought. Perhaps Holmgren is operating under the assumption that Pronger is done, just talking cap and such. If Pronger does come back, then you're adding a body with a 5 mill cap hit.

Review the thread carefully, please. So far there are only two pages, so it shouldn't tax your attention span. Focus on #4, 7, and 17 in which the posters think of Schenn as a Flyer Dman. While only #4 states it explicitly #7 and 17 gloss over it as though they agreed. Until I pointed it out no one noticed it. The thread concerns the Flyers and they have only one Schenn. His brother Luke, the Dman, was recently traded by the Leafs.

Would never want Weber in Philly, but I'd be intrigued how he would perform without Suter and in a more run and gun system with a suspect goaltender behind him.

Not sure if you guys saw this earlier, since we're talking about Martin :

Josh Yohe ‏@JoshYohe_Trib
Nashville made Pens an offer for Paul Martin when it was clear Suter was leaving. Now Weber might go. Just saying.

For Shea Weber and Chris Pronger I would do similar to be fair.

I know we are a small minority on this board, but I actually agree with you. I think it could have disastrous consequences down the road. But for now, this is a big upgrade for them. It will be interesting to see which team has the better Dmen 5 years from now.

What team does Luke Schenn play for? Can you google that for me?

so this may confirm my suspicion that Martin's value has just increased to Nashville if they don't match Weber's offer.

That is false. They have Luke (d-man) and Brayden (forward).

And there's one person in this thread that hurrrrrdurrrrrr.

Anyway, Weber to Philly is not a good thing, but it doens't guarantee them anything. I'm intrigued by this situation. I'm not sure Nashville can afford NOT to match.
