So, obviously with Weber signing an offer sheet, he's sending a message to Nashville's management that something's not working.

Sucks for Nashville if they lose Suter & Weber. They're one of my favorite teams.

yeah, maybe he's sending the message he wants to be paid, i can see poile offering a big long term deal but not the signing bonus he's getting from philly.

how much do you think DET is kicking themselves for not doing what Philly did?

i gotta think NSH matches, i think Weber wants to stay a Pred but be paid. worst case tho is they can keep him for a year and then trade him to better assets.

Yeah. This is why I think Nashville cannot match.

If the salary was structured more like Suter/Parise... Nashville would match. because the salary is $1 mill and the bonuses are huge... I don't think Nashville can match that.

Also, bonuses aren't part of escrow, which is a missed amusing part of all of this...

I disagree. I don't think Weber wants to be a Pred.

I think this entire **** ball avalanche started when Poile took Weber to arbitration and compared Weber to Yandle and Byfuglien, instead of Chara and Lidstrom.

That arbitration process was not a nice event between Poile and Weber. Consider also that the board found in favor of Weber?

Yeah... I don't care how "nice" you are... You give your boss the finger after that.

Since then;
Poile gives a boatload to Rinne.
Poile goes all in on a Cup run and gets bounced in the 2nd round.
Poile loses fan favorite Tootoo.
Poile loses Suter.

Next?
Poile loses Weber.

Sounds like a perennial GM of the Year candidate, if you ask me...

Well I haven't seen Nashville fans be arrogant like Detroit or Philly fans have. I do hope they can keep him and then find a high end offensive player to keep the fan base excited.

I just don't think Rinne by himself is enough to get ANYONE excited.

If weber leaves, how do they get to the cap floor?

Yeah they would pretty much have to match to hit the floor.

Philly is a known team for offer sheet usage...they've done it in the past. Not a surprise they tried it.

Now, this doesn't mean Nashville won't match either, as Vancouver certainly matched when Philly did this for Kesler.

I think Weber just wants a deal done now, and I don't think this means he's against staying in Nashville, as he knows doing this now means it's a strong possibility, when if he waits a year, he can guarantee he won't be back there.

Come to think of it...I think Weber did this to force a long term deal that may not even be available after the new CBA. Everyone is expecting the cap circumvention deals will be gone after that....possible contract length limitations.

Yes getting $100M and some kind of NTC/NMC would be very smart right now as opposed to waiting for the new CBA. Also, escrow-free money.

Escrow. Free. Money.

The league doesn't take money out of the signing bonus. For the first FOUR years of his contract, escrow is only taken out of his 1 million dollar salary...

The % of escrow taken out of the players salaries has always been a sore point...

Which... Is another reason why I don't think Nashville will match. They rely on revenue sharing from this as well as over all.

I think maybe they are going to wait a few days to see if they can secure some funding.

It would be very beneficial for the league to help them get a loan or some cash. Having a franchise that doesn't make much money (if any) completely bottom out and lose all their players vs a franchise that will probably sell out every game and make lots of money and has a rich owner regardless of whether Weber comes or not...

You have a situation this summer where two smaller market teams that don't make money are losing their franchise players, potentially to big market teams with plenty of cash. It just doesn't look good from the outside and kind of speaks to the need to improve revenue sharing or reduce/re-work the salary cap and floor calculations as a percentage of revenues.

man those 4 1sts will give them a very slim chance on getting the impact of not having suter and weber on the blue line, and its years away assuming they don't panic and rush guys. i think NSH will be ok they have some solid prospects.

also getting Andrei and Radulov burned that team side ways. thew should have targeted better character guys for their scoring hole, i have a feeling both weber and suter were pissed that Preds solution to scoring was that, i think poile held back from making a move for say a bobby ryan.

I wonder if there's anything to that second round playoff flap with Radulov/Kostitsyn, or if it's just a coincidence?

I think Nashville matches the offer, and Weber will be happy to keep playing there.

...Darren Dreger says on on 97.3 ESPN Radio in Philly that Shea Weber doesn't want to play for Nashville.

Weber's agent also confirmed on 97.3 that the cap-hit in the Flyers deal with Weber is $7.8-million per year.

I personally just caught the end of Dreger saying that on @973espn. Said there was tremendous trade dialogue between Preds and Flyers

I don't buy what Dreger is trying to sell about Weber wanting out of Nashville. I think he'll be happy with either outcome, he's just playing the best hand for himself under the current CBA.

Nashville will match, it will just take a week to pull together the cash.

Then Weber needs to put a muzzle on his agent......
