Yes, I seriously did, I'll repeat this since you fail to understand. Nashville isn't going to commit that kind of money on a player when they don't want to be there.

It's a good day to be Shea Weber, isn't it.

At that point Nashville will make the playoffs for these next 2 years and have a revamped offense likely with the departure of Weber. While also ensuring that in 2014/2015 they have a competitive team with Ellis/Josi/Blum ready to fully take the team over on D.
Yes, the earliest the Preds would even consider trading Weber would be at the 13/14 trade deadline.

also weber wouldnt sign a 1 year deal. with the new CBA, he needed a lifetime contract now, or it would never happen
Well, they won 37 years ago, so they're pretty close to "40 years cupless."

Sighhhh.. They can agree on a trade, in which Nashville agrees not to match and Philly sends players instead of picks. It's not 4 1st rounds or nothing.

Happened in the past they just set a different standard on the picks, a.k.a they say we will match unless you give us ______ in exchange for the 4 first round picks that we are supposed to get as compensation.

Not likely, but ya never know.
Philly is not volatile. They've missed the playoffs once in the last 17 years and have been better team over the last decade than your Penguins. They had one bottom-5 finish, the Pens had five over the last decade.

because the Preds can reject the offer, take Philly's 4 1sts, then ship them back to Philly for players.

Nashville can negotiate alternative compensation with Philadelphia instead of the first round picks, but in essence, it's match or don't match at this point.

Weber: "Philadelphia is a destination place."

So much for no one wanting to come here because of Holmgren's "loyalty".

Yeah, one player decides if a team fails or not.

They'll be low.
They have come close to missing the playoffs a number of times. They also had a 2nd overall pick 5 years ago.

Look at the last 4 years. And their team has never been stronger now.

I don't count "well they can get injured" as a valid excuse either.

These picks will be in the high 20s.
The chances of any one of the four picks being less than 20th is actually quite good based on normal odds.

We are talking about four years here. To state with absolute certainty that they will all be low picks is a horrible position to take.

Look at Philly, NJ, Montreal, or Boston for examples of teams who did nosedives despite having solid playoff consistency over half decades (or even more).

That's not actually how it would work. The teams would rework the compensation so that something else instead of the picks went to Nashville. The picks would not be traded back and forth like that.
