I can't take much more of this off-season. More craziness that the "Exodus" of 2006.

So, if we don't match, our current roster is:

SK-Fisher-Erat
Wilson-Legwand-Hornqvist
Halischuk-Smith-Bourque
Spaling-Gaustad-Yip

Josi-Klein
Gill-Ellis
Blum-Ekholm

Rinne
Mason

On the bright side, that would be an AWESOME AHL team...

We would have to spend about 15 million to get to the cap floor. Semin+JBo would help.

Cap hit means very little to a team like the Predators who will never really be a cap ceiling team. All that matters is real money.

It makes him an AMAZING trading piece in 2-3 years if the Preds deal him down the line. The way the contract is set up with front-loading, he's arguably more valuable today than he ever was.

Oh man, check out this beauty from the trade boards.

"So from Philly, Bryzz+Mezza+MAB/Gustafson+pick for Rinne?"

What are the chances of Järvinen making Predators' line up this year?

This year? Basically none. Has a decent shot in the future.

Are there many guys ahead of him? He was without guestion Finland's best defender in WC, plus I think his style of play fits well to NHL.

At this point, for sure Josi, Blum, Ellis, Klein, and Gill and ahead of him. If Weber stays, he makes it 6. I also fully expect us to bring in one or two more defenseman, especially if Weber leaves. I think Jarvinen will be in the mix with Ekholm and Bartley for early D callups.

I think he starts the year in the AHL, but plays a game or two for us this year.

Work out a deal like people are talking about where we dont match, then have it set up so we get the Schenn brothers + Read for Philly for their picks.

Weber --> pick --> Schenn+Schenn+Read
Blum+3rd for JBo
Sign Alex Semin with extra cap space.

Semin-Fisher-Erat
SK-Schenn-Smith
Wilson-Legwand-Hornqvist
Bourque-Gaustad- Read
Halischuk, Spaling

JBo-Schenn
Josi-Klein
Gill-Ellis

Rinne
Mason

Top 4 D can be changed around to Josi-Schenn and JBo-Klein if you want, doesn't really matter. Wilson becomes a trade chip.

We start going with a youth movement, yet use one of our best young players as a trade chip?

The best course of action now is using our exclusive trading rights now with philly to get the best package available or threaten that we will match the offer.

I am thinking on the lines of Vorachek, Kimmo, Read/simmonds and a 1st but would love to get Cooter or the brothers Schenn in return.

How? If we let him walk, we get 4 firsts. If that's the case, no way is Philly sending us anything back that is really what Weber was worth for just first round picks. If we match, we aren't trading him as we're going to pay him $26 million for one seasons worth of service? That makes no sense.

I'm not sure what you mean by exclusive trading rights though. We can't move him for a year if we match. If we don't, we get 4 1st's, nothing else and nothing can be negotiated.

That's not true, there is a third possibility that Philly and Nashville work out an agreement that would send Weber to Philly and a different form of compensation to us. Has been reported and talked about by multiple people. In other words we don't match but essentially trade their picks back to them + for actual player assets.

There are two ways this goes down. We match or we don't and get 4 first round picks. If we decide to deal those picks back to Philly, then that's fine but those 4 picks are not going to get us what we would've gotten for Weber. They would separate deals and who's to say Philly says, we don't want to give you our players for our picks back, thanks for Weber. That's a game of chicken Poile does not need to play.

Depending on who it gets us, I'd consider it.

The deal would have to be agreed to and sent to the league office WITH Poiles notice of non match. Poile should be fired on the spot if he takes the picks and tells PH that we will work something out. The game is cutthroat. It is time for DP to join the club or admit the game has passed him by

Agreed. This is like a prisoner exchange. If we are going to do the "theoretical unrelated trade" it better be with both poile and holmgren sitting in the league office with each one watching the other sign their respective deals.

The problem with that scenario is apparently Hlmgren has been trying to trade for him and poile won't budge on his demands. Gonna be an interesting bluff if the owners have told poile he can't match to see what poile can get or will settle for.

I agree. I think the game has possibly passed him by.

I also think we can't afford an uninsurable contract. It is just stupid.

Excellent point. Let's say he's got a bum knee in 6 years - we're out 70% of the contract value.

I want to see Colin Wilson re-signed if Trotz plays him on the wing. He played so much better there than center so there's no reason to keep forcing it. He is probably a valuable trade chip but whatever value he has as an RFA is significantly less than him under contract.
