Yeah I'm really hoping it does, but I can't justify thinking that Nashville won't match. Its a huge contract, but Shea is the best defenseman in the league, and probably the only think keeping them from the NHL cellar...I just have a feeling they match

Suter AND Weber were keeping them from the bottom

With Suter gone, the question is can Weber keep them afloat alone?

Since it seems Weber wants out of Nashville, it makes more sense to take the picks and start a rebuild.. 2x 1st round picks for the next 4 years is nice

Should Nashville not match we could then move Meszaros and still be able to bring in a top six forward.

Agree.. And i think that is what Holmgren is after. What we can get with Mezza+Read+prospect(Not Schenn/Couturier)+picks? Ryan? Clowe+Murray? Doan?

If we get Weber, then trade Mezza for picks , waive Lilja&Shelley and hope somebody claim them, then do offer for Doan like 5-6.5m 2-4y.

So we have something like this:

Harts-G-xxx(Ryan/Clowe/Doan)
Voracek-Briere-Schenn
Fedotenko-Couturier-Simmonds
Wellwood/Sestito-Talbot-Rinaldo

xxx(Weber)-Timonen
Grossman-Coburn
Schenn-xxx(Murray/prospect)

Nice one.

IF Weber does come here I may be the lone guy who hopes we don't move a defenseman. You can't have enough good players on the blueline. Injuries happen. There is no need to make Weber play 30 minutes a game till the playoffs. Id' rather see the young guys fight for top 12 spots than trade Mez and try to get a top 6 forward. JMO.

I'm not going to be able to sleep all week now.

Just one question: I thought the deal was 14 years 110 million? Why is his cap hit 8.5 then? Wouldnt that make it like 7.86 or so? Or is it 8.5 without a bonus cushion?

Weber is 110 million over 14 years, so 7.85. No problem as far as I can see

Please....please let Weber go to Philly. Imagine how stacked our defense could be:

Timonen - Weber
Grossmann - Coburn
Schenn - Meszaros
-------------------
Lilja - Gervais
Bourdon - Gustafsson

I have a feeling we'd trade Meszaros if we landed Weber, though.

I think from what someone mentioned, the problem with this is that Pronger's cap does not immediately go away while he's on the LTIR.

The Flyers could fit the current roster (minus Meszaros) under a $63 M salary cap if need be.

They are able to go 10% over the cap during the summer. They would have to get to 77+ million including Pronger for their to be a problem. No worries there. With Weber at 7.8 and Voracek at 3.25 we are only at 73 million. And that is with 24 players.

Leafs fan here, I come in peace....first off congrats on Shea Weber.....

Secondly wanted to ask you about Jakub Voracek, didnt want to start a new thread.

What do you think his upside is?
What do you think his stregths/weaknesses are?
And atm is he a first liner, second liner, or third liner?

Thanks So Much Guys!!!

60-70 point player
2nd liner
His strengths are his speed, and his ability to protect the puck. His shot on the other hand, is weak.

Upside is a fringe first liner (I think he can look like it playing on Giroux's wing), probably will be a career second liner

Strengths are his athleticism (he's fast, strong on the puck, etc.). Not so great shot (inconsistent is the best word for it. I've seen him fire some rockets but miss the net badly)

As I said, I'd put him on the first line with Giroux to start, although

Talbot - Couturier - Voracek

was my favorite line last season

He has the skills to be a first line winger and will probably end up with his chance this year along side Giroux. He has GREAT vision as far as passing is concerned, and can make nifty dekes at top speed. He can make the flashly play, or the solid play, he's very versatile that way. His shot is definitely a weakness and maybe the fact that he tries to do too much on his own, but I feel like he'll grow out of that.

At the moment he has the skills to play on the top line, but we'll have to see how it works out without having two players with pass first mentalities in Giroux and Voracek on the top line
