If Voracek and Mez are gone that realistically ends any chance of getting Ryan.

They still count towards the cap.

The whole point of the bonus is to force NSH to not match

They can't really shell out 27m in just under a year

I realy think that if we do get Weber, we will be giving up the 4 firsts. If Homer wasn't going to give up Schenn or Couturier or both in a trade for Weber I don't think he ever will. I also do not see him removing a roster forward unless he gets another in return.

Smart. That's still a messed up contract. I wonder if the NHL will step in.

Can anyone explain if signing bonus counts towards the cap?

Is it 110M + 68M in signing? Or is there really 42M/14yrs in salary + 68M in bonuses?

My example is Brad Richards:

$60M/9yrs = 6.66 cap hit
Salary: 12-12-9-8.5-8.5-7-1-1-1 = 60
Bonus: 10-8-2-2-2-4-0-0-0 = 28
Total: $88M/9yrs = $9.77M/yr

So is his salary actually 2M + a 10M s.bonus = 12M for that first year? B/c CapGeek makes it look like 12 counts towards the cap, and the 10 is extra = 22M for 2011-12.

The bonuses just add to the total. $1m in salary + $13m in bonuses for the first year just equals $14m for that season. After adding up every season's salary + bonuses and then averaging it over the 14 years is a $7.8m cap hit.

He's not a generational talent or anything, but to get someone who has scored 30 goals consistently over his young career and is still only 25 years old to play with Giroux for maybe the rest of their careers, I would do it. Also he is a friend of Clarke and all that to top it off. Mostly I am thinking about this for the next decade.

Giroux-Ryan
Schenn-Simmonds
Couturier-Voracek
Laughton

Weber
Coburn
Schenn

That is an amazing core to move forward with.

that does look like a solid team for a decade, can we do this or has holmgren attempted with the players listed above?

If they preds really can't match it, and homer really wanted to be a dick, then no players would be going the other way. I gotta think some players are going to nash, just not the ones poile wanted. Mez & jake probably. Frees up the money for doan to replace jake, if thats their plan.

Then you also have danny and kimmo coming off the books soon. They should be OK in terms of the cap in the future for now. Pronger of course staying on LTIR. Most of their talent is really very young and under control. It also fixes the age disparity between the D and forwards. The week link for the team going forward really is going to be in net.

All we know is that Anaheim has asked for Schenn or Couturier in return. So we don't really know. We also don't know if Ryan really wants out of anaheim and will try to force a trade.

I cant reiterate enough how valuable Read is to this team. His production at his cap hit is the best in the league. I wouldnt trade him for much.

Yes. I agree with keeping read. He's extremely cheap and versatile. Keep Voracek too.

I have seen the threads, just don't know if he was just speaking out of frustration or really does want to be traded. I think he does which is why I would not give up Voracek in a deal for him.

So the actual Paragraph 1 salary would be $1M +13M signing bonus?

I guess my question then becomes what's the point of the bonus, why not make the Paragraph 1 salary $14M?

Im just wondering do we have anything to send ANA in our farmsystem.

obviously we dont have 1st rd picks with them going to NSH if we get weber.

so what can we give them.

I gotta imagine ANA will have scouts looking at the phantoms (

the factory of future NHL stars).

And somehow we are discussing Ryan again. I wonder if people would slobber over him so much if there wasn't a local connection?

Bonuses are not salary. Salary is earned by actually having games to play (potential lockout). Games to play = revenue.
If Nsh can't earn money from revenue they likely don't have 26m in cash just chilling for a player if they play games or not.
