My jaw dropped when I read that. Talk about economy in salary. Imagine what would happen if Stillman told Army we could spend to the cap.

Ideally that would be beneficial.

But at this point, there aren't many "sellers" in the NHL trade market, so even a team like Vancouver who would love a 6-7 million winger, can't find one, because everyone needs to keep their own talent. No one seems to be looking to "offload salary" or trade veterans for young talent. That happens closer to the trade deadline. Even then, only 1-2 teams are sellers at that point.

Obviously there would be benefits to flexibility and being able to sign high end talent via free agency, but really, even if St Lous budget got extended to the max this season, they probably wouldn't get to the max anyway, unless they were willing to do talent for talent trades.

With that looming can't blame the guys for term and bonus signings The rollback seems unfair to the players on fiscally responsible teams though

The funniest part about this is there is some dude over on the blues forum on stltoday that is ranting and raving about what a horrible deal this is. Kept rambling on about how oshie was a third liner and that on just about every other team he couldn't crack the top 6, and that the only reason he is in our top six is because the girls like to look at him. Dude needs his head checked.

He was an RFA as well....how did he manage to get more than Perron? I know it's marginally more but still. Not saying it's an overpayment nowadays, Perron one was a bargain I guess under 4 m.

I actually typed up a long reply to him and decided against feeding the troll so I deleted it...then he posted a few more times and suckered me into responding

I saw that. I thought about replying but I figured it wasn't worth my time, haha. It really is a very good deal. Any team would LOVE to have Oshie at that salary.

Guys like that are the reason I'm not a member there. Can't deal with the stupidity. Anybody that can't recognize that this is a fair deal doesn't watch him on a consistent basis. In my opinion, Oshie is on par defensively with Backes. Sure offensively he's not as good, but you can't have enough solid two way players. Especially guys that can play physical.

I'd bet the concussion question with Perron drove down his cost a little bit. His defensive play is also lesser than Oshie's.

More UFA years.

Edit: Plus, Perron has always had the attitude of "just get the deal done so I can play hockey."

So there was a deal proposed where the Blues get Bouwmeester, and Flames get Armstrong to negotiate their next 10 contracts.

Is that still on the table?..

Only if you send him to Detroit.

Exactly.

His two RFA years average under $4 million, and all his UFA years are at $4.5.

Never had any doubts that something would get done (although it sure took longer than I thought it would). Great deal for the Blues.

OK. I really don't think he's worth this much.

It's my impression that the players are getting these big contracts because they're expecting a salary roll-back by the end of the CBA. i've got a feeling that 4.175 cap hit is going to roll back to somewhere between 3.1M and 3.5M.

Next Sam Gagner is going to be awarded 5.5M via arbitration. Jeez.

Oshie is a better and more important player than Perron.

Awesome deal to get Osh locked up. He's loved here and this just adds to our bargain contracts.
