2016-17 (31): $4 million salary + $8 million signing bonus (total $12 million)
2017-18 (32): $4 million salary + $8 million signing bonus (total $12 million)
2018-19 (33): $6 million salary

Damn this is pretty crazy. If I am Nashville you have to match this. Unless they really cannot afford him. I do have a question though, say they don't match, can they swap out some of the assets? They are in clear rebuilding mode at this point. those 4 first rounders from the Flyers will be high picks. Can they say take 3 first rounders and ask for say Harry Z, Bourdon, Gus and Manning? or something similar? I assume they would have to do a wink wink deal and just trade one of the first rounders back.

This is a pretty tough spot for the Preds though. With 4 first rounders from the Flyers and 4 from the preds, they will essentially have 8 picks in the next 4 years to get someone close to weber. I think I would ask the Flyers for some prospect/roster players in addition to 3 first rounders so they can see an impact this and next season. Pretty tough situation though.

The farthest I would go trade wise would be Voracek/Mez for 2 of our firsts back.

I love Jake, but if it meant Weber and not giving up B Schenn, L Schenn, or Couturier then I would be cool with it.

We are in a position of strength by saying either take the 4 picks or good luck paying Shea Weber 27 million when as an organization you only pulled in 26 million total at the gate. At the same time, though, I REALLY want Shea Weber and would play ball if Poile wants to play.

Adding Shea Weber puts the cup within reach.

As long as this doesn't affect Shelley's roster spot, I'm very happy. Money well spent on Shea

Holmgren gets the biggest troll of the year award if he lands Weber. How anticlimactic were his FA signings..I mean Feds and Gervais. We were all like.. ok at least we keep Couts and B Schenn. Then Holmgren comes out of nowhere with the biggest offer in franchise history...just amazing trolling...amazing.

Gms want the bonus cusion back into cap witch would lower schenns hit to around 1.5 I think and a few others would be lowered too, amnesty clause would be epic for the flyers as well

guys, I was at delassandros, great cheesesteak place. i got there alot plus it was my 30th birthday party even though it was a day late. alot of the regulars watch the flyers there. I was talking with a few, I brought up the flyers nearly have weber. I told them about the deal and the wait.

they said, in the bars eye the flyers have a win win no matter what. They also have in there eyes see it 99% chance he is a flyer.

Pretty simple reason too:

Quote:
If the Predators match offer, they will pay Shea Weber more over next 12 months - $27 mil - than they make off ticket sales— $24 mil.
https://twitter.com/CrossingBroad/st...67434774335488

This is why the salary is so low but the signing bonus is so high.

yes they count.

The major difference is that salary is tied to games being played. If there is a lockout, no salary is paid out to players.

The check is cut for bonuses no matter what.

The big question is does NSH have 13 mil in "cash" ready in 7 days....and will they have 13 mil in cash in 365. If they can float this...(and still sign other players to get to cap floor) then there is no problem with them matching.

I almost posted in the Odd Sequitous Blather thread on Tuesday evening that, as I was leaving for Nova Scotia and questionable Internet access, I hope nothing major happens.

Ha!

Fortunately, the family with whom we are staying have Wifi, so I logged on to end the day and ... WOW! I can't believe this is going down.

Two thoughts:
  • While I know it's a win-win, "losing" Weber back to the Predators would be quite the depressing outcome.
  • If Weber does come to the Flyers, Nashville should have to change their team name to the Prey.

I just noticed that nine of their forwards' contracts are up next season and they still haven't even signed the Kostitisyns yet. The longer this goes on the more I think it's not likely that they'll match the Weber contract.

It almost seems like they're going to be forced into a rebuild at this point. I have no idea how they'd be able to come up with the money for all of this with a front loaded Weber contract.

I don't think they planned on signing Andrei anyway but yes your point still stands.
