Honestly the St. Louis Blues dont get enough credit. They run an amazing organization despite the money troubles. Their family atmosphere really shines in contracts they sign. Doug Armstrong is a underrated wizard.

Oshie is slowly becoming one of my favorite players in the league. He's one of those guys who I would have really enjoyed to see in a Pens uniform. Great signing by the Blues.

Fair deal, Oshie was never going to get more than Backes but should probably (in my opinion) be the second highest paid forward on the Blues. Obviously McDonald signed under different circumstances.

Oshie to me is both more valuable and safer than Perron so I'm not surprised at all that he got more term and more money than Perron did.

A 20 minute, any and all situations forward is a much better use of 4+M than a 60+ point winger (like Jagr and Whitney for Dallas this year, obviously overpaid for due to UFA and cap space).

The Blues are set up very nicely to absorb Shattenkirk, Berglund, and Pietrangelo's raises after next year and remain very competitive for around a decade.

Good for Oshie!

Still remember HF saying "who?" when he was drafted...so much for St. Louis "reaching".

Fair contract. Even though he is 25 years old, I think he has some more room to grow. Very high skill level and physical when he wants to be.

It's my impression that the players are getting these big contracts because they're expecting a salary roll-back by the end of the CBA. i've got a feeling that 4.175 cap hit is going to roll back to somewhere between 3.1M and 3.5M.

Next Sam Gagner is going to be awarded 5.5M via arbitration. Jeez.
The Blues were fourth in the league and second in the West. Oshie led them in points and was no small reason that they set a modern day defensive record. Dude is very good at hockey (better than Gagner for sure).

Gagner, unfortunately, doesn't compare well to other centers who score in his range, who tend to be considerably older and are on UFA contracts, or signed their deals before they hit a similar level of production. If you compare him with Dubinsky's 3.75 (even though Dubinsky is playing wing these days, he wasn't when he signed his contract) and Berglund's sweetheart 2.25, he'll get somewhere in the middle. I wouldn't be surprised by anything between 3 and 4.

Great deal. Good money now for a young gun. Projecting to be cheap as hell in years 4 & 5.

Well, I was being sarcastic saying upwards of 5... but I don't think that Gagner should be getting 4M. I agree that he's never had anything to work with during his time in Edmonton, but he needs to show he can do a little bit more on his own to get the amount of money I think he's going to make.

But I really don't think Oshie is worth that much. I might be wrong, but I put a hell of a lot more stock in a ton of other forwards on the Blues.

He's the third highest paid forward on the team and they still aren't at the cap floor. He's statistically a low-end first liner and is elite defensively. I think you just don't have a solid grasp on what guys are getting paid these days.

I stand corrected. I though for sure if Oshie singed for 5 or 6 years he would command at least 4.75. Love that he gave up 3 years of UFA at a great price considering inflated market.
