John Carlson

If the Avs were to offer sheet JC, what do you think the odds are that Washington would match? I'd love to see him wearing an Avs sweater. I think he'd make an excellent partner for EJ...

...and I went to school with him

100%, assuming the offer sheet is anywhere near his worth.

100% the Caps match, no way we could get him through an offer sheet without MASSIVELY overpaying.

Been a fan ever since the 2010 WJC golden goal. His play in the playoffs a few months later was awesome. ANything short of 7 million and I think the caps match. He's their best 2 way defender and they think the world of him.

Really would rather not get involved with the Offer sheeting, Greg from accounting needs to stay far away from that crap.

Now, I would be ok with a trade for Carlson. Would gladly do Carlson+ for Duchene. Carlson's gonna be a great Dman, and he and EJ on the back end would be fantastic for us. But I dont think Washington needs a Center anymore, so it probably doesnt happen.

I would do Carlson + Johansson for Duchene + Hejda or something. If Hejda isnt enough maybe one of our D prospects.

Caps wouldn't trade Carlson.

Carlson is a righty. Sacco would never pair him with EJ.

And please, guy who proposed Duchene for Carlson, please don't do that :[

I think Alzner would be a better pick up. Love that guy. Going to be a great, steady defender for years to come.

Was just about to post the same thing. I think Alzner would better compliment EJ's style.

Both Carlson and Alzner would be pipe dreams. Those two are the backbone of the Caps for years to come.

Alzner is the better defensman of the two.

I do not like the idea of trading Duchene for a defenseman for EJ.

Why would you offer sheet Carlson before Subban? I watched them both a tonne last season (fantasy hockey). They're both great but Subban's been better.

Besides, we can't afford to loose the picks. Need to stock up on a winger at least.

LOL. I would rather have Adam Foote playing top 2 minutes for the next decade than Subban. That guy is the exact opposite of what the Avs are trying to build here. Selfish and low hockey IQ. I don't know about his character, but I would assume that someone that makes that selfish of plays isn't full of great character. But like I said, I don't know that.

I don't think Carlson is better. I don't like either of them.

He may be selfish in ways, but he does not have a low hockey IQ.

This..

Great defender.. Not a fit as our #2 so not worth the contract or compensation it would take for them not to match it.

And Duchene & Trade should equal an automatic especially after the contract he just signed. Ive already ate my plate of crow on that one.

I'm not interested in pissing off other teams while we have a team full of young promising RFAs.

Yeah Subban has been better. Carlson was great in the playoffs but he slumped badly for half the season (in the 2nd half unlike Subban who struggeld a bit in the 1st but not defensively).

You're basically just buying into the HF Subban hate by saying he lacks character or is selfish. Well, so is Drew Doughty or Karlsson and Doughty is actually worse at passing the puck on the PP yet they don't get the same hate. Subban's offensive instincts are much better than Carlson's. His defensive game when he's on top of it is more physical and better but the problem is that it isn't consistent yet.

No, I don't mind Subban, the hate for him is exaggerated. He's a bit overrated by HF (his game not his character). Carlson being a year younger than him has put up identical point totals, JC's defense is far and away better than PK. You don't see JC coughing up the puck trying to go end to end every time. The only thing Pk is better at is open ice hits and even that gets him in trouble.

Alzner is a fantastic defensive defensman and I prefer him to Carlson.

And I would take Subban over Carlson quite easily.
