Key to the Series

.....Lidstrom, but not just his defense. Check out this snippet from Foxsports.com's West preview: http://msn.foxsports.com/nhl/story/5525100

"The Red Wings were a perfect 14-0-0 when Lidstrom lit the lamp this season."

I didn't know that. FEED HIM THE PUCK!!!!

Actually, I think we almost never lose when any of our defensemen score.

Key to the series is every player skating with a purpose....even Lang. If Detroit moves their feet, they'll be in good shape.

I've never seen them lose a game this season when they had the "energy" Babcock often talks about. They should have it tonight. I just hate the way they drag when they go out West or up to Oil-land.

It seems that either the Red wings Bring everything and win the cup, or just assume it and go out fast. I think that they know that Edmonton can beat them will get their stuff together for the game.

question about tv coverage for these games. I am in Boston and have NHL CI which wont be airing the game tonight because of OLN coverage. Does anyone know if this game will be aired on Fox Sports Detroit?

Nope. It will be on Fox2 in Detroit, not FSN.

hmmm, looks like there is no way i will get to see this game tonight. I have the sports package on Dish Network with all the FSN regional channels and alternates. Not sure if it offers Fox2, whatever that is.

Even when they win the cup they start out slow. In 97 it took them about 4 and a half periods to score on St. Louis, and we all know about the near-disaster in 02 with Vancouver.

The keys to the Oilers will be....

1) No Penalties - as long as we don't give the Wings to many PP's everything will be good... our speed and play 5-on-5 can and will be dominate over the Wings.

2) Goaltending - If Roloson can be as steady as he has been over the past half-dozen or so games... he will be good enough for us to take the series. He needs to play solid... doesn't have to steal games... just has make the occasional great stop at the right time and play decent.

Good luck to the Wings.... it is definitely going to be an exciting match-up and series.... I love how both of these teams play system-wise.

Oilers win Game 1 - 4 to 2 (Peca scores an empty netter).
