Oliers are/were after Nikolai Kulemin

Jeff Marek was just on the Fan590 and said that the Oilers are/were after Kulemin. Apparently they are after a Russian speaking player to help Yakupov with his development, and basically someone he can feel comfortable with and relate to.

I'm assuming Tambellini didn't offer a hell of a lot, maybe a 2nd + prospect? He would be a great fit on the young Oilers team, but Marek went on to say that the Leafs really covet Kulemin, along with 29 other teams in the NHL.

I'm wondering if Burke signing Kulemin to a deal today lessens the chance of him being moved.

Id say there is more interest in him now that he has a good contract and cap hit with the ongoing CBA negotiations. Any Russian factor is now gone

Kulemin seems like such a solid citizen and his combination of size, physicality and skill should make him appealling to just about everyone. Burke was smart to not sell low.

Not a bad idea for Edmonton but I highly doubt the Leafs would be interested in what Edmonton would be willing to offer after Kuli's recent season.

Kind of what I was thinking. Besides the Big 3 draft picks, Eberle and Schultz, nothing really interests me on the Oilers roster.

If they want a Russian to help with Yakupov's development they should sign Semin, and trade Hemsky away for help on D or in the net.

Hall - RNH - Eberle
Yakupov - Gagner - Semin

Just saying

Anything Oilers would've realistically offered via offer sheet gets matched and Kulemin would be worth more than potential draft pick return.

Not to offend Oiler fans, but there's not much on the team that will interest many teams outside of the big 4 (who are obviously not being moved). It's really a great problem to have.

I would think rumours of Semin's issues (whether founded or not) would scare them away from putting him with a prized prospect.

We still have Bulin for a year.
What better role model to have?

Semin? Gross.

And Hemsky obviously doesn't have the trade value that Tambellini wants, or he probably would have been moved already.

The problem with anyone trading for Kulemin, is that Burke will want his value as of his big season two years ago, and other GM's will see that as a potential possibility, but not a guarantee and offer less. I don't see Kulemin being traded unless its an overpayment.

Isn't Khabibulin still an Oiler? I can see why they'd want a guy like Kulemin though. Seems like such a stand up guy.

Should just bring in Alyonka Larianov IMO. New Octane girl.

Agreed.

Burke isn't really one to sell low on a player. Hopefully last season was a fluke and he'll get back to scoring 20-25 goals.

The only way that Kule goes to the Oilers that makes sense for the Leafs would be for one of the big four.

Obviously we would have to add quite a bit to Kule to make it happen. But maybe,

RNH
for
Kulemin
Connolly
Franson (signed or conditional 1st)
1st '12

or

Eberle
for
Kulemin
MacArthur
Colborne
1st '12

be gentle

OK - I'll be gentle. Thanks for the thoughtful offer. The Oilers would politely decline.

I stopped reading your post after your "one of the big four" comment. Just.. no.
