Would rather have traded him. 2.8mil is fine IF he hits certain offensive totals (15G,20-25A), otherwise he's overpriced.

I'm guessing you've never watched Kulemin play.
He could score 0 points and never be a healthy scratch, because he contributes a lot off the score sheet.
Case and point, last year, when Wilson was scratching just about everyone who went pointless for 2+ games, Kulemin was not scratched once on his off year.

You can mark my words.. Kule's coming back hard this year! He cares TOO much and works TOO hard to have a repeat of last year.

I'm expecting a big bounce back = 20g+ / 40pts+ / his regular amazing defensive play.

GO KULEMIN.

He works too hard and has quite a bit of skill not to bounce back. I expect something similar to that.

I don't like this Burke. It should have been one year or a multi year deal. This has Kulemin become a UFA and saddle the leafs with a expensive contract at that time.

Very happy with the deal, Burke isn't overpaying this year and I like it.

I expect a bigger year from Kulemin. Last year was just a disaster. No way he repeats that.

Thats an ok deal but was expecting a little longer term. He's one of the guys that will have an easy time in Carlyles system.

Only you have.

At the moment he's a 3rd liner.

Solid signing for Leafs/Kulemin.

Just under 3 million is perfect for a 3rd liner like Nik

Leaf fans: why did he have such a bad year last year?

GO KULEMIN.
To be fair, he and Grabovski hit the gym HARD last off-season and that didn't translate to great offensive numbers.

Good deal for Kulemin. He had a really rough year in the offensive zone last season but if he contributes 15G 25A this deal will already look like a steal for the Leafs because Kulemin plays well on the defensive side of the puck. He's built like a Mack truck, tough to check off the puck, has good wheels, and a hard shot. He'll bounce back, no doubt.

To be honest, no one knows. But it was mentioned quite a bit that the horrible plane crash of the Lokomotiv team really affected him.

Really happy to have him back. I honestly think that with the cap going up and up, 2.8 is a good contract whether he scored 7 or 30 goals. He's a tremendous 2 way forward, great on the PK, lays the body, and plays a smart game.

Not really 'baseless'. He (like many Russians) lost many friends in the Lokomotiv Yaroslavl crash including his mentor here in Toronto, Igor Korolev. They used to get together on a weekly basis in Toronto to talk about Kulemin's game and have dinner. They were also teammates in Magnitogorsk and Korolev and his family helped Kulemin a lot when he first came over to North America. Pretty big loss likely had an effect on his performance. Things like that are incredibly difficult to get over and could very easily be considered a basis for him to struggle.

Kulemin takes very few shots on net so don't expect him to ever become a consistent 25+ goal threat but when he scored 30 he buried a lot of garbage that was left behind by Grabovski. Grabovski created the play, Kulemin finished it. This past season his head just wasn't right. He still didn't take very many shots but couldn't find himself in those spots to pot the garbage goals either. I personally think it was all mental.

terrible deal if he doesn't rebound from last season, steal if he goes back to his 50 point form and alright deal if he goes back to 35ish points but still a little overpaid

He shot at half of his career SH%. Terrible luck, statistically speaking. His play away from the puck was quite impressive, however.

The Leafs are paying 4% of the cap for the best defensive forward they have. He could score 25 points and still be worth it.

I don't think Kulemin is a 30/30 player... neither do I think he is as bad as he showed last year.

I think 15-20 goals and 20-25 assists is what to expect from Kulemin going forward.

I'm really surprised he couldn't get more. He's a season removed from 30 goals. He's also just scored 28 points. Value should've been somewhere in between.

Great signing by BB.
