Who do you think we're going to give up if we acquire Nash via trade? Aside from only Dubinsky?

for this year, yes they can, if the cap stays at 70m. Rangers have 15mil in cap space...if dubi is the only roster player on his way out, then youd be looking at adding about 7-9 mil in salary depending on what Doan takes...and if they dont do anything else, that still leaves us somewhere between 7 and 10 mil to re-sign MDZ, Stralman, McD, Stepan, Hagelin and AA.

Im guessing 2 of those will be cap casualties going forward. probably AA and Stralman.

He was at the CBA negotiations. They are held in NYC. Of course he is going to visit with the Rangers while he is there. Why not?

Keeping our options open. Probably means we're gonna add a few more depth guys and we want to have as much available space down there.

If Nash does come to NYR, it would be on Sather's terms. I see something along the lines of Dubinsky, Miller, Thomas, and a 1st, or as I mentioned in my second set of lines, Dubinsky, Anisimov, Miller, 1st.

I'm not, however, saying Nash to NYR is any sort of guarantee.

I Don't see both Dubi and Miller going in the deal...but maybe that's just me.

Doan would be a good fit on a line with Gaborik and Richards. However, giving a 35+ contract to a guy always rubs me the wrong way. Especially if he's looking for crazy money.

Also, I have a hard time believing that Doan and Nash on the NYR is possibility. If we sign Doan, I think Nash is no longer an option for us.

If Doan signs IMO the Nash thing is over.

If, as speculated, the new salary cap will be about what it was this year ($64.3) it will be hard but doable.

FORWARDS
Rick Nash ($7.800m) / Brad Richards ($6.667m) / Shane Doan ($5.000m)
Chris Kreider ($1.325m) / Derek Stepan ($0.875m) / Marian Gaborik ($7.500m)
Carl Hagelin ($0.875m) / Artem Anisimov ($1.875m) / Ryan Callahan ($4.275m)
Brian Boyle ($1.700m) / Jeff Halpern ($0.700m) / Taylor Pyatt ($1.550m)
Arron Asham ($1.000m) /
DEFENSEMEN
Marc Staal ($3.975m) / Dan Girardi ($3.325m)
Ryan McDonagh ($1.300m) / Michael Sauer ($1.250m)
Stu Bickel ($0.750m) / Michael Del Zotto ($2.100m)
Anton Stralman ($1.300m) / Tim Erixon ($1.750m)
GOALTENDERS
Henrik Lundqvist ($6.875m)
Martin Biron ($1.300m)
BUYOUTS
Chris Drury ($1.667m)
------
CAPGEEK.COM TOTALS (follow @capgeek on Twitter)
(these totals are compiled without the bonus cushion)
SALARY CAP: $70,200,000; CAP PAYROLL: $66,733,334; BONUSES: $2,100,000

That's 2.4 above this year's cap limit, and that's carrying 8 defensemen, and assuming Gaborik plays all year.

Assuming Gaborik starts the season on the IR, and 1 of Erixon or Stralman aren't on the team (either in the form of Erixon not being ready or Straalsy getting too much at arbitration). If both of them make the team, that means that Sauer would be on LTIR as well, which would clear up some room.

Next year, however, would suck. Unless the cap goes up, Anisimov would probably become a cap casualty.

EDIT: Also, in the new CBA, there would most likely be additional tools to get under the lowered cap.
