I thought Wellman was decent? By all means this is a minor minor minor trade, I just thought the Rangers considered Wellman one of the first call ups.

With Kolarik back and Newbury down in the A, maybe they wanted to open up a spot and they didn't see Wellman as part of their future plans. A 5th '14 for Christensen? I'm good with that.

Wellman didn't sign his QO by July 15 which is rare for a player without any leverage. The Rangers still retained the player rights. Maybe Wellman felt he didn't have a chance to crack the Rangers roster and wanted out.

The Rangers acquired Wellman for a 7th in 2013 and traded him for a 5th in 2014. The 7th in 2013 was sent to Minny when they didn't re-sign Christensen.

Wellman is better than anyone on our 4th line. More stone handed grinders/goons for Torts I guess.

hmmm too bad but yea he was not going to make the lineup anyway being realistic. So it was EC and a 7th for a 5th then.

Aweful? The guy was basically a nobody who didn't sign his QO. We dumped his ass and got a pick for him in the process. If the guy didn't want to be here at least they maximized his value while they could. And are we really that worried about losing a possible 4th liner?

Looks like they're handing the team over to the next crop of kids whether they're ready or not. Miller, Thomas, McIlrath, Bourque, etc.

He's not a grinder and not a 4th line type of player--so what's your point? The Rangers traded for him over half way through last year--extended him a qualifying offer and he didn't sign it. We didn't give him a chance? or he didn't give the Rangers a chance?
