2-3 years at most.

I'd be more comfortable with 2 years.

Would like to see Doan sign here.

Then trade for Ryan.

If we get Doan, I'm actually going to feel a little bad for Nash.

I'm going to feel bad for the SJS players who get traded to Columbus.

According to Brooks in the Post today, the only other team in on Nash is Detroit.

I'd still take Nash even with Doan ... HOWEVER .... having Doan in the fold takes any leverage BJ had (as little as they had)

Sather is smart. He moved a scrub and a conditional 7th for Wellman, then traded his 2013 5th for a 2012 5th (Spelling).

He then turns Wellman into a Florida 5th rounder in 2013, which is not only a deeper draft, but will be a higher pick since it's assumed Florida will finish lower in the standings than us.

These moves seem minor, but in reality they make a ton of sense.

The Rangers now have 5 picks in the 1st 90, and picks in rounds 4, 5 and 6.

When bad teams stockpile picks, it's a roll of the dice. When good teams stockpile picks, it makes them more dangerous.

Wolski and Christensen for a 3rd and 5th. Not bad for two guys who were useless at the time they were traded and cost nothing to get in the first place.

The 5th rounder we acquired for Wellman is a 2014, not 2013.

And Columbus won't trade him there.

They have one option.

I would take Doan for 3 years. @ 35 he is worth it. He can play on any of the top-3 lines and produce. He has always taken care of his body.

Agree.

They can't afford both. Shortsighted to think they can.

McDonagh, Lundqvist, Stepan, Staal, Callahan, Girardi, Kreider, Hagelin, Boyle, Gaborik...

They all need new contracts within 3 years.

I wouldn't mind getting Doan, even if it is for 2+ years and a bit too much money. Gives us very good depth on the wing and is frankly cheaper than Nash. Hopefully Sather works something out.

If it's more than 1 or 2 years, pass. He'll likely sign out west anyway, he and his representatives are just doing their due diligence.

Seems like there's heavy interest on Doan's part. Hopefully he doesn't leave NY without a deal, and it's only 2 years. 3 is definitely pushing it.

It's really the money that's concerning for me. It's tough to take a risk on a guy at that age. 3 years at $18m is probably what it would take. I think the Pens would give him that. He's still a good player and can be an effective role player even if his offense declines, but $6M is a lot to invest in a player that might end up on your 3rd line in 2 or 3 years.
