Since Yashin is a center and Edmonton could use a mentor for Yakupov, I wonder if this is the team that made an offer to Yashin. It will be interesting to see if Yashin accepts the offer and is willing to come back for one more try at the NHL.
Yeah because Yashin would be the perfect mentor for Yakupov

Got a gut feeling it's Montreal.

Yeah, the Islanders want to bring in Yashin to teach Yakupov how to hold out for big bucks in 3 years and try to engineer a trade to New York.

The guy who has a rule named after him, where you can toll a contract for a year if a guy holds out while he has a year remaining on his deal. The Alexei Yashin rule. Not used often: Preds with Radulov this season; Boston could use it on Timmy T, but probably won't.

Oilers want this guy far away from their young stars.

Yakupov would learn better from a pylon or even Sean Avery.

He played well for Barry Smith. Is Smith still scouting for Chicago?

Yeah he can teach nail how to bolt to Russia after screwing the oilers out of a big contract and be a cap burden for years after

Honestly, I'd be more interested in Yashin if we DIDN'T have Tarasenko coming over next year. However, being the only two Russian-speaking players on a team would make the two gravitate towards each other and with Yashin's character being so much in question, I doubt that would be good for Tarasenko's development. I was always a Yashin fan growing up though so there is a part of me that would like to see him in a Blues jersey.

I think if he came back and was put onto a 3rd line and not too much was expected of him he might be alright. May score 15-20 goals and disapear in the playoffs but if it was for league minimum than it might be OK.........as long as its not with the canucks lol

Canucks are in need of a Center but Gillis hasn't touched a Russian ever since he's been GM.

Buffalo needs a veteran stopgap center. I'd still want Arnott to be the guy, but I wouldn't mind a flier on Yashin for something in the 1.5 mil range.

Also we have to realize a contract offer from a NHL team doesn't mean it's a realistic offer. Maybe it's just the same GM from a bad team offering the minimum every season.

The Habs have a logjam at center.

Plekanec
Desharnais
Eller
Gomez/Nokelainen

So unless they trade or dump one of those guys i can't see it happen. That's unless Yashin convert to the wing to play on Plekanec left side but i think the chances of that happening are minimal. Eller could also play wing like he did in the past but he's better suited at center an i think it would be wiser to let him develop at that position. Yashin also doesn't really strike me as a Bergevin type of guy.

Jagr never retired, and "a few" years ago Chelios was still in the league.

I like him a lot, but he only scored 20 points last year in 43 games.

I don't see this happening and I certainly don't see him making an impact.

The NHL is to Yashin what the Habs are to many players in the NHL... leverage.

It's the second or third time, since he left for the KHL, that his agent has said that he had offers from NHL clubs. It's only to up the bids at the other end. NHL players use the same tactic using the Habs, especially French Canadians (Lecavalier, Brière...)

I don't buy it one bit. Waste of time.

Funny you say that because I would gladly take Yashin back on the Islanders for 1 year if it meant Semin possibly signing too. They both share the same agent and Snow happens to have a great relationship with Gandler/Yashin as well as Wong. Yashin being a stop gap #2 center for a year until Strome is ready and bringing Semin with him is something I would actually like to see.

Moulson-Tavares-Okposo
Grabner-Yashin-Semin
Bailey-Nielsen-Boyes
Martin-Reasoner-Boulton/Joensuu

That actually resembles a group of forwards who can make the playoffs.
