Leddy gets paid after this year, if he makes too much and has shown he can actually be reliable in his own end this year then you trade Hammer. This isn't rocket science.

Getting Weber, the player, would be good. Getting his contract is not what we need after shipping out Campbell for the same reason

honestly, weber at 7.85mil a year isn't near campbell at 7.2 bad. he's a top 3 dman in the NHL. Using cap space on an elite player in his mid 20's isn't dumb at all.

EDIT: And even though Keith and Seabrook weren't making the same money then I've previously posted here how we could easily fit Campbell on the team next year at his salary and be just fine.

we'll probably be spending ~3.5 on a third pairing dman, 5.5 for a second isn't really much different. Besides, as I already said, we're not getting weber so this is pure fantasy anyway.

this trade was about the longterm, not last year or next year. This trade was for the time when Bolland, Leddy, Toews, Kane and our starting goalie need a new contract.
