Wonder if this hastens the Nash talks up for us. Additionally wonder if we land Nash, whether Doan is willing to take a pay cut to play for us.

Interesting that no one has corroborated the story yet. I'm not sure I trust Gambadoro's word all that much by itself. Could be he heard Doan was in New York and:

Sure. For the first year. Maybe even the second year. But the third year? Screw that. I don't want any part of a thirty ****ing seven/eight year old Doan. Get out of here with that.

Yeah. Giving big money and years to a 35 year old player who plays the game that Doan does is no big concern. Give me a break.

I can understand the concern about Doan's age but he is a gritty hard nosed player who can still produce at a decent clip. He had a good playoffs--or at least what I saw of his Coyotes against the Kings--he was one of (if not the best) Phoenix's better players.

And in Doan's case we're just throwing money at a player--in Nash's case we're really taking on a huge contract and if Howson gets his way we're sending him a bunch of good prospects and players--all of whom are still young.

If Doan were to come here--I expect he will come to fit in. It won't be like Messier to take over. I don't know if there is a downside out of this apart from making the term of his contract too long. Two years would be okay--three would be pushing it.

Personally, 22 goals and 50 points won't be worth what Doan will probably make on this market.

I'd love Doan on this team, just like i'd love Nash on this team, but just like with Nash the cost vs. production aspect of it has me really hesitant.

Seriously. Dude is a THIRTY FIVE YEAR OLD FIFTY POINT PLAYER who will only get worse from here on out. And people want this guy signed for money and years? This is ****ing ridiculous.

Agreed, between that and his likely cap hit I have no desire for Doan. We need legit top level scoring talent, not a veteran 2nd/3rd line tweener.

Give Dubinsky the same minutes Doan gets and you get similar production.

You don't give guys like this big money and big years. End of story.

You must've sleepwalked through the 90s/2000s since you claim to have followed this team then. This would be just like any of those other moronic moves this team made.

I get the fact that you have some man crush on Doan because you live in Phoenix and can't somehow see the idiocy in signing this guy to the deal he wants. I understand that. But you need to seriously think about the problems this will bring to this team if he goes off a cliff once he's 37. Something that is very likely to happen.

Just because Doan has been offered 7.5 per doesn't mean he will take it if its from a non contending team. He's already made his money at this point he will more likely take less money to play for a cup contender or he will not give a **** about winning a cup and take the money. Sorry for the run on I'm doing this from my phone

Signing him to 2-3 years is not a move of the 90s/2000s. Redden, Drury, Gomez and Holik were all given mega contracts worth mega bucks.

2-3 years at 10-13 million would not be a bad signing, IMO. You may have a different view, but that's my take on it.

I will GLADLY welcome Doan here for 1-2 years at 4.5-5M. Any more and he can GTFO.

Three years? Insanity. Give the man one or two. Tops.

You know why I'd rather sign Drury, Gomez, Holik, etc. over Doan? BECAUSE THEY WERE NOT 35+ CONTRACTS.

To be honest I'd take him for 3 years 18 mill.

What's the difference between signing a declining player at age 31 (Redden) to a 6.5 a year contract, and signing a 35 year old to a 2 year deal at 5 a year? Both contracts take you to 37 years old, and quite frankly, Doan is much better than Wade Redden at age 35. And the cap hit would be less than Redden's.

Using hindsight, please don't tell me you'd rather sign those listed players, at the price they were signed for, rather than sign Doan.

I mean, is there a full moon out or something? We are seriously OK with giving a 50 point 35 year old player 6-7M over 3+ years?

I'm just speechless. I have no idea what to say anymore.

Uh, because you can't erase a 35+ cap hit in the minors? That was clearly my point. If Doan bites it after year one, you can still probably move him as guy with one year left on his deal. On a three year deal? There is a potential time bomb of two years of being cap-****ed. Screw that.

Well than you're not getting him and you're going into 2012-13 with a ton of cap space and a downgraded team. Howson's not moving Nash unless he gets a huge return. I just don't see that trade happening.

You can't take Doan off your cap though. The 35+ rule.
