Jody Shelley

Wings fan coming in peace. Has there been any talk about the future of Jody Shelley on the Flyers? Seems you guys are pretty deep at the forward position. Will Shelley play an even smaller role than he did last year? Will he be traded?

He will play a smaller role, because he isn't a good hockey player. He won't be traded, because he has no value.

He will play a smaller role because Rinaldo, Sestito, and Mathers are better hockey players then him. He won't be traded or moved though.

He'll be good to have in your corner when you play Boston and the Rangers. Considering Sestito could see more time, I don't think he'll see many more than 20 games.

He will be the first player Captain Weber hands the cup to after his initial skate around with the trophy...

Yeah, he might play 2 games combined against those teams. If someone gets injured.

We'll see how he performs in The Expendables 2 before we think about the long term.

I think Shelley play the 13th or 14th forward on the team because he is a good teammate that knows his role. He'll not make a stink about sitting in the pressbox at this point in his career. He makes about $300K to $400K too much but the East got bigger and tougher. There are probably 10 - 20 games he'll play in even if Sestito makes the team.

BOS, NYR, BUF, NYI, PIT, FLA

I know Shelly gets a ton of hate around here but to say Mathers is better is silly. One on one Shelly would like like Gretzky against Mathers

He provides vet leadership and sometimes a good body, but he can't win fights or produce offense on a consistent basis, overpaid, and has no real spot on the team except for spot starts. I never blamed him though for taking the contract offered to him.

He gets beaten up pretty well and he keeps morale up since every player is more attractive than him automatically by not looking like a duck. Did wonders for Voracek, who looks like Claude Giroux's long lost twin raised in an attic fed only fishheads and moldy bread, and sources say his being problem was feeling ugly.

Also he has a girls first name, a silly last name, and did I mention he looks like a duck?

Shelley will be employed to be Shea Webers bodyguard. Not on the ice of course.

He has hockey IQ and works his ass off, good for the young guys. While all that is true, he has a heck of a time most nights keeping up with the play in the NHL. I like the guy, but would rather he wasn't eating the cap space he is.

Mgt. seems a route he would take, sorta like Lappy/Hatcher/Cote type... I hope he does.

From what I have heard and read, Shelley is a great teammate. Obviously he is a terrible hockey player. But I expect him to be the 13th forward on our roster for this final year of his contract because he is by all accounts a very beneficial presence in the locker room, willing to sit in the press box for most games, plays defense in practice to pair with the 7th defenseman, and is sometimes useful to force other teams' goons to be accountable if they are running around during particular games.

Regardless, if there is an injury, our AHL call-up will likely get the nod in games over Shelley most of the time.

Then it makes absolutely no sense to have Shelley as the 13th forward if he isn't going to play.

Lots of guys are great teammates without being terrible players. He must have incriminating pictures of Holmgren or Snider.
