Wouldn't surprise me. As I've said, I expect many more offer sheets to come, particularly if the UFA crops continue to be so weak.

Eklund saying offer sheet coming really means Kane re signs 5 year contract.

What ever this guy says anything the opposite happens.

Shea Weber receiving an offer sheet doesn't change the fact that they are still quite rare and many GM's refuse to do them. This is just more Eklund garbage.

Would the Jets match 14 years at 110M with 26M being paid in the first year?

Evander Kane will not be offer sheeted. He is a player who is probably worth around 5.5-6million on a 5-6 year deal (the length players around his age usually sign). At that price, the compensation is not nearly enough for the Jets to even consider not matching.

But if a team were to front load it to a ridiculous, Shea Weber level - could the Jets match it?

Yes, the only way to front load a contract to a Shea Weber level requires a massive amount of term. In Kane's case, for this to happen the deal would likely have to be in the 18 year range.

Kane has much more to prove before a GM pisses off a trading partner by making an offer.

And I think Kane MIGHT be the best young power forward in the game. He has a ton of potential. Still he hasn't shown the consistancy to warrant a team going out on a limb with a huge offersheet.

First of all since it's Eklund it won't happen because when was the last time one of his predictions actually came true? Personally I think he's using this as an excuse to get more hits on his site since we just had the Weber offer sheet. So I say the timing of this is very funny.

Don't they have the ability to match any offer just as well as anyone else?

Their owners aren't exactly poor.

What about a 280 million dollar, 20 year contract?

Would not pass the NHL test, so no worries on that contract.

Jets at least can match.

They have a very rich ownership that can't be taken advantage of in quite the same way as Nashville's.

Would be interesting to see who would make that type of ballsy move however.

I'm sure offer sheets are offered more than we know, we just don't hear about them because they go unsigned. If Eklund had insider information, he'd at least have an idea as to which team Kane is considering.

True. Sad for the Habs, as I would take him on in a second (and we hear that Bergevin would also).

Why not?

14 million per year for 20 years ending when he is 40 years old, no cap circumvention.

No indication of which team at all huh? Typical Eklund. Just trying to attract traffic to his site as usual. He could have just said the same about P.K. or any other RFA, but I think some fans have learned have we?

Of course they will. He is part of the face of that team, and a future top 3 power forward.

If these teams all will match (like they claim) why don't they just pony up and sign the guys long term without giving someone the chance to poach them?

There's like ten guys in the world that could get into a spending battle with Thomson and win so I don't think that's an issue.
