Any good Yanks for the Big guys like Halifax and Quebec to pick up?

That'll get the small market Guys mad, but I think the Moose will have to make one of these moves (A la Coyle) to get a big US player to come play... Would help a lot.

It's a good question with no easy answer. There's a lot of questions for a kid to answer:
- which develops players better?
- what's the cost?
- what if I'm not good enough for the NHL?
- what is life like?

For a borderline player -- nobody's a guarantee -- it might be a career limiting move to play up here. If buddy is good academically, University of Michigan will look better on the resume than Halifax Mooseheads. American colleges bring status that the CHL cannot compete with.

Sports scholarships at the big schools are roughly $30k a year. Bump that by a third and it will cost $160k to begin enticing player for four years, probably much more.

Many American colleges have great coaching staffs with recognizable names. Saint John and Quebec can currently compete, but can the rest?

American college players play against bigger, stronger opponents who follow systems closer to the NHL. The Q is much looser hockey and much less physical.

American colleges travel at least some by air. Q players bus it, a lot.

American players get to live in great American cities and communities. I've toured my share. No comment on ours.

IMHO we're not going to attract players unless they have unusual circumstances. Coyle's team was imploding, and who knows what other factors played a part. For all I know he's as smart as a doorknob and was going to fail out, maybe he just couldn't stand his coach, or maybe he had a woman problem - it happens. All I know is he's playing hockey now and no other US college kid is right now, except Kreider.

Go North & Check it Out the QMJHL

Yes, Players that are interested will show up and the better players that are wanted by teams should check it out and see what the QMJHL has to offer.

But the QMJHL does need to promote the league better and invite more N.E. players to the combine next year or hold a separate N.E. combine to help draw & provide information so players can make educated decisions about heading north.

The perception that the QMJHL is a weaker than the other major junior league doesn’t help and New England has ton of D1-D3 and Club College programs to choose from.

If players decide to attend QMJHL training camp they must know the NCAA Rules if want to say eligible.

At the end of the day if you get to play in the Q and your college costs is part of the deal you did good.

Two US Draft Picks?

Not all QMJHL teams have U.S. Scouts but they are required to draft 2 Amerians starting this year.

So how much effort & time did the QMJHL teams put into scouting New England players that will show up to camp if drafted?

Can anyone provide information about the 2 Saint John Sea Dogs draft choices from New England - Drew Michals (goalie from Boston Junior Bruins) and Wiley Sherman (D from Hotchkiss School in CT)? Also, what are the chances that they report to Saint John?

Dew Michals is definetley considering the great opportunity that was afforded him by Saint John Sea Dogs a source has said. He is considered a top prospect in the US.

He's a 95, how good is he ? Where does he play ? Where is he headed as of now ? To whom is he commited ? Can he be a top Q goalie ? Where do he rank amongst 95 born American goalies ?

He is about 6'1, extremely athletic with great tracking skills and hands. Big game goalie who is extremely consistent. He is being looked at top Div1 but in the states they want their goalies to be at least 20. He is off to Indianapolis with the USHL main camp and I heard he is going to the National Festival in Rochester, NY.

I have seen other posts that indicate he is one oof the top goalies for the 1995 age group and was one of 5 considered for US National Team last year.

Local taken in QMJHL draft
By Nathan Fournier Published: 14th June 2012

Quote:
After a stellar junior season with Kents Hill, Mark Dufour is getting some attention from junior and college scouts.

The Drummondville Voltigeurs of the Quebec Major Junior Hockey league took notice of Dufour’s play and selected him in the 13th round of the league’s entry draft last Saturday.

“It’s a cool league. Growing up I looked up to it,” Dufour stated about going to Lewiston Maineiacs games as a kid. “It’s cool to be able to participate in (the draft process).”

Auger is returning, but the backup is completely open. And if someone shows up and plays really well, they could potentially bump Auger to backup.

Connor Garland was in Moncton last week playing for the Eastern Ice, the team Danny Flynn puts together to play against a US team. Very Very small but also very skilled. He was probably the best player on the ice beside Stephen Johnson another Wildcats pick..

Do you think he's skilled enough to join Moncton next season?

He definitely has the skill but he is sooo small. He was only playing against other 16 and 17 years olds but he was definitely the best player out there. It will be interesting to see how he does against 19 and 20 years olds.. I really don't think he is 5'6 either.

Drew Michals is an American goalie that they drafted, could be their starter, don't know his intentions...
