I think we can find a player of Voracek's caliber without giving up a 1st and 3rd. The guy has never scored 20 goals. I understand he's a playmaker but the last thing we need is another left-handed playmaker.

Hah, yeah that's what's going to happen, but maybe Shero can hypnotize Holmgren somehow to do it.

No way is Voracek worth almost 5 mill, not right now at least. I see him getting something similar to what Kulemin just got. 1-2 years, 3-4 mill range.

If they do manage to sign Weber, anyone can offer sheet Voracek for 2.2M+ and the flyers will have to go over the cap to match.

If we offer sheet Voracek, it's going to set up a trend of the Flyers offer-sheeting Pens' players, and vice-versa, back and forth, for the next 10 to 20 years. No thanks. I don't want to engage into a that kind of war of hostility to a team as stupid and agressive and Philly. We have other means of finding players.

I believe they're still allowed to be over the cap. They could clean up salary-cap issues later by trading someone else.

That said, Voracek would have to want to join the team offering him the deal. Ray Shero isn't a vampire — he can't just compel players to do his bidding.

Well, if they get Weber they can't offer sheet anyone worthwhile for the next 4 years as they would need their own first round pick and I am still not buying into the rampant idea that the Preds just want to trade them back to them at fair value.

Why would they take out Pronger's cap hit? Aren't they stuck with that?

If he retires, yes, not if they burry him on LTIR indefinitely, which they no doubt can afford.

not if he goes on LTIR which he will if he can't play. The cap hit stays on if he retires, but he also stops getting payed if he retires. So there's no reason for him to retire instead of sit on LTIR.

"worst case scenario" cap-wise has Chris Pronger coming back into the line-up. That's the only way they have difficulty signing Weber and Voracek. And then they have the best d-pair in the league. They'd just dump someone like Meszaros

If Philly gets Weber we have to sign both Semin and Doan. Have to create more offense against Weber and Phillys defense.

And Timonen walks at the end of the season, leaving that slot open for Pronger next year.

That's a lot to overcome.

They are more of a team that will cater to players who want to win it all that is later on in their career and will want to be here. Those are the types they should target on shorter term deals.
Doan.

I am getting more and more confident about getting him. I really am.

So what happens if Pronger wants to try a comeback in six months and they have spent to the cap?

trade or waive somebody. Immediately be a better team because Chris Pronger is head and shoulders better than everyone on their team not named Giroux or Weber.

We do have like 76 games against teams other than the Flyers coming up. Maybe we should plan for those ones too.
