No kidding. Don't turn this into if he doesn't sign here. It's about the money he makes not if he stays or goes.

6-7 mil for 5-7 years. I think Burke has this in the bag.

Assuming so, if he were to equal his last season...7mil x 5 or 6 years is my guess. Another great season like the last definately puts him in the 7 million per range.
Under the current CBA, I believe they can talk but nothing can be signed until July 1, 2013. However, the new CBA could change this.

He'll likely receive 7m-8m a season with a 5-6 year term.

35M over a 5 year term = 7M per year.

something like 5 years/$36 million seems like a safe guess from Burke. someone would throw a Suter contract at him if he made it to UFA, definitely.

Kessel will let the UFA market and supply and demand determine his next contract if the new CBA allows him that opportunity at the end of his current deal.

If he still wants to remain in Canada, as opposed to return home and he likes Toronto he is likely going to give the Leafs a chance to match his offers at that time to keep him.

Once the new CBA rules are known and UFA status age and contract length and terms are known this will be easier to answer, but as of now getting what he feels he deserves, based on what others are getting would seem logical to suggest is his desire to get market rate.

7.5 per on a 9 year deal

Before you say "burke wont offer a contract that long" Remember burke saying he didn't have a problem with long contracts as long as the player was young, and the contract wasn't front loaded.

7.5

Or he may be traded if we trade or sign other elite type forwards? I wouldn't be too surprised if this indeed happens my friend.

Think this roster is still only 50% the way Burke envisions it as a final product. This means turnover.

Still be fine to frontload this contract. Kessel would be 34 at the end of this contract? Could give him a signing bonus and couple years at 10M.

I say anything between $6,000,000 - $7,000,000 would be alright.

Yeah I like Kessel, but he's not worth 7.5M. 6.5 would be nice.

If he has another year like he just did, that be a steal, especially with the cap going up. I'd be comfortable giving him $8M, and probably a little north of that if he pushes the issue.

If he gets another season like this:

9 year $70 million 7.77cap hit.

10mil
10mil
8mil
7mil
7mil
7mil
7mil
7mil
7mil

In my mind kessel is better than parise and younger to boot. This deal takes him to age 34, so his next contract won't be 35+.

7 million AAV is fair for Kessel. I'd go max 7.5.

Unless he turns into some 120 point player then obviously more. But he's not going to so he doesn't get more.
