If it is, I would give them this offseason as a pass. Not only can they possibly not fix all the problems in one offseason, but there is concern to keep spots open in case of an NHL lockout. After this coming season maybe they will put more emphasis on a successful Amerks team as well a a top development stop for prospects.
No, they had control last summer too. The emphasis need not be mutually exclusive -- the Amerk-Sabre relationship historically churned out plenty of quality NHLers while still having a contending team on the ice. We're talking 9 trips to the Calder Cup Finals and three Calder Cup wins since the affiliation started.

Since Regier took over, 2 trips to the finals. No championships. He's been an absolute failure (amongst many others) at compiling competitive AHL teams. He sucks, to be blunt.

Non Darcy years: 1980-1997: 7 trips to the finals, 3 championships.

Darcy Years: 1997-2008, 2011-2012: 2 trips to the finals, no championships.

Sabres general manager Darcy Regier said center Travis Turnbull, a restricted free agent who played his first three NHL games last season, likely wont be back.

We have not spoken with Travis, in part because of a shift of some other needs in Rochester, he said. Were beginning to fill up there. I wont say hes off the page, but there are probably some other needs ahead of what he provides.

The Sabres summoned Turnbull when they needed some toughness

Does Catenacci have a shot at the Amerks this year? I don't see him on the depth chart.

He's not eligible for the AHL this season.

It was a 9 team league in 1980.

That's a fair point and the AHL is certainly a different league today.

So Regier was quoted in the D&C on June 26th, that he wanted five forwards, a defenseman and a goalie to round out what he had in Rochester.

Porter on the 2-way, Mancari, Schofield, Roy and of course Girgensons makes five forwards signed since that comment.

Probably Pardy on defense.

Leggio in net.

I know he's got this thing for finding some retreads in August when everyone else has an NHL deal (Bouck, Parrish and Larsen as training camp invitees) but is this it?

Yep this is it, I'm thinking. Back to debating high priced UFAs and lineup projections

That got boring a while ago.

Picard would be the guy who seems like he offers what they could use. Good size, a bit of jam to his game and he can score in tight.

I'd love to see AP here. But I seriously think they're done for the reason you mentioned (Regier targeting 6 skaters and a tender) - save for, possibly, something akin to Parrish like you alluded to.

You would certainly hope he's got another forward or two left. Only 2 of those 5 were veterans. Even last summer he signed 4 veteran forwards and they had more of a foundation to begin with. If this is it, as usual, he gets low marks for his work with the Amerks.

Picard signed in Europe and Aucoin just signed with the Leafs on a 2 way, so the Amerks will see him all year. Great. They're falling even further behind.

Aucoin making 350 in the A. We have an abundance of bottom 6 forwards in the A

I'm not liking how regier treats the amerks, either. There used to be a huge buzz around the city for them. Now...not so much. It's sad how much it has changed. Just look at the attendance numbers:/

Well, he's not playing on the Amerks either since he's not eligible. Won't be 20 in time and hasn't played 4 seasons in junior.

Catenacci's playing at Owen Sound again in 2012-13; and until his OHL season comes to an end, he'll remain ineligible to play in Rochester. It's not up for debate.

What kind of setup/line structure did Rolston use last season?

I'm asking because I would love to see a line with Girgs/Sundher together. Realisticly that would mostly likely happen on the 3rd line.

I'm assuming Girgensons in the middle on that line, correct?
