Any chances that happens? 800k cap space isn't much, but I guess we could do the same thing as we did last year with Schenn for his cap hit to be lowered. Either this or keep Meszaros.

Keep Mez. D depth is never a bad thing to have, plus Doan is on a 35+ contract. Not worth it.

I would have to think that team would be cup favorites for the next two years.

i would drive down to Philly, pack mez's bags and drive him to the airport if it meant getting Weber.
I would be fine with having Doan on the team. Probably wouldnt give him more then 2 years but I would take him.

We have D depth. We have 10 defensemen who can play in the NHL, 5 of them who can play the 6th defenseman spot just fine, and Lauridsen will get his shot this year too, making it 11d/6-6th dmen. Doan will be on a 35+ contract, yes, but I'd have little problem signing him to a 3-4 year deal for $4m+. His play isn't dropping much, and he's been more physical in recent years. Still a leader, still good for 20 goals in the right offensive system, still a bruiser too.
Weber, Doan, Schenn at the expense of Jagr, JvR, Carle, Meszaros is pretty damn solid.

haaaaa that would be something. What are we trading for Bobby Ryan? Voracek and Mez? 1sts in 2017 and 2018

What we are really doing is retarding the growth of quality NHL caliber defensemen, at the expense of having 5 really, really good defensemen. That is a problem. Because the other guys will either have to get stuck in the A or will get picked up cheap on reentry waivers. Plus we do have defensemen coming back from significant offseason injuries. As we saw last year, depth can get eaten up quick, fast, and in a hurry.
In addition, Mez's contract comes off the books at a great time for us. Depending on how the new CBA is structured, it could be greatly beneficial to not lose it now.
As for Doan, I like him a lot, and I've gotten to see him play in person. But, the man wants to get paid, and wants a four year deal. Since we won't be able to ditch that contract, and because we have some serious resignings to do during that four year period, I'd rather not put money into him. And even if he is good for 20 goals, do we want to pay ~5 million for it? He's a great player, but with where this team is at, I think it the wrong move at the wrong time.
I'm concerned about goaltending (I'm sure I'm stating the obvious here);
Bryz will need to keep his start total to around 55, MAYBE 60 games to stay fresh for the playoffs (since we're expecting a deep run if we land Weber), which means Leighton will have to shoulder 22-27 games. He did very well in the 2010 regular season, but that was with the defense playing at 150% capacity. Lavy will have to pick and choose his Leighton stats carefully IMO.

Bryz will bounce back. First year of his deal in a hockey crazy city. He took a lot of abuse from the media. With us possibly getting Weber the defense in front of him will be a helluva lot better. We finally would have our all-around top 1 d-man that we missed dearly with Pronger. Followed by rookie forwards getting to experience the NHL pace of the playoffs this team will be better. Nobody takes into account the main core of our roster will be going through another season together.
Bryz lived in a new environment last year. New city, new teammates, and the most scrutiny he has had in his career. He fully knows what to expect now. Bryz has put up very solid numbers in his career. Its way ****ing better than Bouch, Nittymaki, Biron, and Leighton. I think people should give the guy a break. He will bounce back and shut the haters up.

If Leighton plays 27 games and ends up getting around 30 points, the team will be fine. That works out to a record around 14-9-4 (Bob went 14-10-2 last year). I think it's reasonable with this potential defense and the fact he won't be playing stiff competition on most nights.
That leaves Bryz 55 games to end up with about 70 pts. 32-17-6 (33-16-7 last year). End up with a Record of 48-24-10, 102 points.. sounds about right.
Regular season standing in the end doesn't mean much anyway. It was #8 v #6 in the SCF this year.. and the last time the Flyers made it they were a 7 seed.

If weber ends up on this team, I don't think there's any reason to believe that bryz can't crack 40 wins
I think he'll have a good bounce back year, and I think he'll be much better than what we saw last year.

I fully trust in Bryz's ability to bounce back. I'm more concerned about his workload with Leighton behind him. I don't want him getting 65-70 starts a year again like in PHX, only to be gassed by the playoffs.

This is about as close to the roster as I think will exist. Only difference for me is that Feds is on the third line, and Talbot is on the 4th.
Voracek gets paid more, and we still have to carry Shelley. But that is the essence of our team. Me gusta.

Didn't Homer actually say at one point he'd be willing to bury money down in the minors to make room for these guys?
If we add 500K or 750K for Voracek and then add Shelley, it will literally be cap hell for the Flyers. The idea of Shelley (and his ****ing horrendous cap) playing makes me want to kill something with a hammer .
Correct me if I am wrong (and I probably am), but shouldn't Schenn's cap hit be half of what is listed on capgeek? I thought if he didn't meet the requirements it went down to half that?

If he misses a game this season, his cap goes from 3.1 to 1.7-ish because of the bonus he has.

Correct, so its safe to assume it will be there at some point this season. I understand they need to start assuming its 3, but I doubt it stays there longer than a month.
I thought i remember capgeek stating that the schenn contract only lowered the first season. This season is different. Might be wrong but thought thats what he said.
